FD's use a hydraulic clutch, pull type, whereas FC's use push type.

Stick with a T2 trans, they are good known trannys.

Since this is going into a S4 GXL then you will need:

S4 T2 flywheel, clutch, tranny, starter, custom driveshaft (or t2 shaft if using t2 rear end)

so you got a NA?
then there is more to it then just swapping the tranny

and why swap it anyways?

probably his na synchros are toast as most are.lol. the t2 trans 5th gear is geared differently from the na, you will be at higher rpms cruising and using a little more gas if you care about that.

you are incorrect

all ratios are different between turbo and NA..
with S4 and S5 turbo there is only the difference in 5th gear

S4

S5

^ya, I know. I was just saying that when you are cruising you will most likely be in 5th so less gas mileage. I guess its good info for the rest of the gearing too though.

I'd like to point out that not all the ratios are different. the 4th gear is the same between na and t2 manuals. jk. I don't understand why they changed the reverse ratio between them though, doesn't seem necessary.

my na tranny works fine the linkages suck so the shifter flops around alot lol but it goes in gear fine and stays there fine.actually what im doing is giving my na tranny to a friend of mine to put in his 88 gtu that just lost all its gears but 1st and 2nd. then i was gunna see how tough it would be to put a fd tranny in my car but its looking like im just going to try to have his busted tranny rebuilt with possibly some straight cut gears and better ratios. my car is being built for the circuit/time attack/autox events and wolnt be put on the street. this is why i willingly gave up my tranny. i wanted an excuse to go better =]. im gunna call rotorsports and see what they can do since hes only about an hour from me.

You know that floppy shifter can be fixed with not much money or effort. Just replace the shifter bushings.

Thanks +1, floppy shifter here as well but was scared to even look at the trans the wrong way :p. Looks like a simple fix though and the price is right!
