FD Throttle body

What's up guys?? I have already did a search on the throttle body mod and found one post, and the thread within that post no longer works, so I'm curious: What all do i need to do to upgrade to an FD throttle body?

Thanks

Aaron

Because you need a FMIC, and most people here are too cheap to go that route. =p

There is a kit coming to take care of this, however. =)

I test fitted the adaptor, it works great, and makes it increadibly easy, but since I'm not ready for my FMIC (still got my turbo waiting for rebuild/upgrade) I didn't install it. I'll call them to see if they plan on marketing this if you're interested, they thought it wouldn't be worth the effort of producing them. (not due to lack of performance, but lack of interest)

Its supposed to be good for around 20HP. I think the biggest restriction on the FC intake track is the throttle body elbow.

HERE's an idea for you. (Thanks CHRIS! RP ROCKS!)

Use an NA intake elbow if you go with a FMIC. It fits, it's not restrictive like the stock TII one, and it's cheap and readily available. It's NOT pretty, but it works.

Yeah, but it's made out of 15 year old Mazda plastic. How much boost/heat is it going to take before it ***** itself?

Bringing this one back from the dead... So, since I want to hook up a FMIC this summer and don't want to get the whole Greddy Kit and don't want to use the NA elbow, an adaptor plate between the FD UIM and FC LIM is what i need right?? One of my friends works at a place where I can have one machined... how difficult of a pattern would this be?? All it has to do is match up the two differing bolt patterns right? Do you think doing the FD TB upgrade and all this stuff will be worth it (money/benefits), or should I just giving in and buy the Greddy kit?

Thanks

Aaron

Read this thread on putting an FD UIM onto a S5 LIM. I understand the S4 LIM doesn't work quite as nicely.

Wait, did you mean the the UIM and TB or just the TB? I've never seen anyone put the FD TB onto an FC UIM, but with some enlarging of the plenum's secondary ports and an adaptor plate it might work. It's only about 15% bigger, so I wouldn't expect a huge gain, maybe 5% peak depending on your mods.

BTW, since I posted that comment above I've heard of a couple of people successfully using NA TB elbows on turbos, and havn't heard anyone complain of them "shitting themselves", so maybe they're stronger that I thought. Might be an easier and cheaper option to consider.

EDIT: Just noticed you did mean the whole FD UIM. Oh well, something to think about.

I doubt it makes any serious power advantage over the stock TB.

The conversion is a royal pain in the ***.&nbsp Rewelding on cast aluminum is not an easy job.&nbsp The stock oil filler neck does not fit, especially if you're using the GReddy elbow.&nbsp Running it through the stock power steering is almost impossible, especially using the GReddy elbow.
