FD rack into FC?
Hi y'alls, I'm new here
I'm starting a project with my '89 GXL, and having the upper-body strength of a piece of Saran wrap, I'd like power steering + quicker steering ratio.
I did a search, but didn't find any relevant information. I know an FC steering rack will fit into an FD, but does anyone know if an FD rack will fit into an FC?

FD rack has a tighter ratio. I know it's adequate (having driven the FC back when it was a running rotary) but I can get an FD rack for cheap.

there are two different ratios for p/s FC racks....
the '87 Sport was among the FCs with the faster ratio rack, not sure if it was all S4 p/s racks or certain models....

The cars that got the 17.4:1 ratio racks are as follows:
The 89-90 GTUs, 90-91 Infini, 91 Coupe, 90 GXL, 90 GTU, and the 90-91 Vert.
The cars that got the 15.2:1 ratio racks are as follows:
The 86-89 GXL, 86-87 Sport, 88-89 GTU, 86-87.5 Base, 87.5-88 SE, 86-87.5 Luxury, 87-91 US spec Turbo, and the 88-89 Vert that were equipped with power steering

I have an extra S5 PS rack with pump and lines.
I took it off my 1990 GXL when I put a manual rack in last month.
If you want it send me a PM, I can bring it to the next fudds meet.

I did a quick search and it seemed like the FD rack has a 15:1 ratio, being the same as the faster of the FC power racks. Therefore I see no reason to use it, unless you happen to have an extra FD rack and the FC rack is broken, worn out, or otherwise in need of replacing.
So you have an 89 GXL, it should have power steering and the fastest rack. I'd suggest making sure the stock system is working properly, and if it's still not good, then switchto the slower rack, as it should help make the steering effort lighter.

And if you didn't read this from before, THE RATIOS ARE THE SAME.
