Fd LSD rear diff on a 88 FC?

is it possible to put a fd rear differential on a fc? ive been wondering this question for awhile and was hoping it was possible. If it is could somebody show me how its done and possibly show me a diy on it.

It's not possible to use the FD diff housing on an FC, not without major and pointless surgery anyway. But it is possible to swap the FD Torsen LSD centre into the FC Turbo housing (but not the NA's). It's a direct swap and a great diff for a street car. If you have an NA (you have to tell us these things) you can use a Miata Torsen LSD. I think that's covered in the archives.

no, its not covered in the FAQ anyway, but should be. and, yeah, to second that, Jason is right. nuff' said!

You'll be down grading if you swap a FD diff into a Turbo II diff... IMO, S4 Turbo II rearends are stronger...

Unless you're making truckloads of power this is not an issue. FD diffs break when doing repeated hard launches with a high-power engine. Most owners of street-driven FC Turbos would never have a problem with one. Most people will also tell you the Torsen diff has a nicer action for street use too, and they're an awesome upgrade from an 18yo worn-out S4 LSD that'll cost a lot more to rebuild than an FD centre is to buy. Horses for courses.
