FD gearbox in an FC???

im sure this will have been asked several times but the search brough up nothing obvious and I havent got time to deep hunt here at work.

im after a relatively quick answer...

I know can you fit and FD gearbox to an FC with a supermade kit, but is there anything else needed to complete the fitting?

if so how much hassle is there involve with the conversion?? are their gains in anyway??

reason for asking is i assume they will be in more abundance and I have plans which involve a sequential shifter. I also destroyed 3rd gear at a drift event this past weekend on my standard FC box..

cheers guys

S5 TII tranny is the same gear ratio's and just as beefy as the FD tranny, but with a whole lot less hassle to swap in

FD's have that garbage pull-style clutch. You don't want it, the TII transmission is soooo much better. Who gives a crap about sequential shifting anyways, get a good short shifter for it and you'll be golden.

What are you guys talking about? Sequential shifter on an FD? Am I the one on crack, or are you guys maybe talking about the RX-8? Why all the hassle? Just put in a TII tranny, along with the bits you need.

Sequential shifting is overrated.

Yea that's all well and good, but it doesn't change the internals of the transmission, so it'll still shift like before, just with a different hand motion, that's all.

I remember reading somewhere that the fd transmission is stronger? I always thoght s4 t2 and s5 t2 pretty much had the same strength, but the 5th gear was a differnt ratio or something. Sorry, I've been out of the scene for about a year.

maybe so but thats what im after...

I came third in a UK event and during my runs, I missed 3rd mid corner.. since then 3rd has actually nuked itself..

that is the reason.. and the only reason apparently.. to change an FC box to an FD.. for the Ikea Formula sequential shifter...

I cant afford.. nor do i know if they make an HKS sequential for the FC..
so the Ikea is the only route.

For not, for cost reasons I'll probably stick with FC boxes.

The HKS Transmissions will need to be rebuilt often and they do not sell the parts separately. You would need to send the item back to Japan for each rebuild which will end up costing a massive amount of cash.

Maybe you shouldn't be shifting mid-corner then. How are your driveline mounts? How are your shifter bushings? Maybe that's more of the issue than anything.
