Do you think TII, 10ae, GTUs will be a collector in the future?

 

Not the Turbo, but the 10AE and GTUs models will probably be in another 10 years

 

So I should lock my car in the garage, keep it bone stock and sell it in 10-15 years?

 

Okay, then I'll have to keep my GTUs then :-)

what about the verts? i have a 88 with 88k miles on it....all original except exhaust and intake...will FCs become valuable like our past muscle/ european cars? or are they just too mass produced..

 

the verts and TII's were never a limited production
as long as the 7 was there so were they
where as the 10ae and gtus was verry limited

 

Keep it CLEAN and keep it STOCK......no wings, neon lights, turbos, headers, gut interior......the GTUs is too rare to trash, and your black '90 is even more rare!

Okay, so we're going back to the old "will it ever be a collectors car" discussion. Personally, I don't think that the RX-7 will every become a collectors item to the point where it starts appreciating significantly in value. If it does, it will definitely take longer than 10 years for an FC - more like 20-30+.

A 27 year old first gen (1979) is not a collectors item yet. Is an RX-3 or 4 considered a collector (by the general populance, not just the rotorheads ).

Actually, that's a pretty good metric - what Japanese imports are currently considered "collectors cars" and what makes them that? How does the RX-7 fit in to that group?

Well when I was looking at mr2's I saw a 93 turbo with 4k miles go for 49k

You'll never see a rx7 go for that much no matter the mileage

 

Did it actually sell (deal go through) - I find this very hard to believe.

Recently, a '94 with 5k miles went for around $30k on ebay.

There have been several auctions like this in the past. Often you see the same car repeatedly re-listed because the purchase did not go through (bidder dropped out) and it eventually sells for much less.

I bought my 1991 RX7 with 15k miles for $9k last year from the original 55 year old owner. Perfect and all orginal including the original Bridgestone RE71 tires.

The only thing that I did was add S5 Turbo wheels and a good detailing. I'm keeping it forever, so who cares what others think it's worth. I looked for 4 years for the lowest mileage 89-91 FC in the country to replace my long lost 89 GTU.

If you're going to buy an RX-7 as a regular customer, wanting to modifying it and have fun with it, then do it man, what's the use of the car just sitting there? Have fun, that's the point, that's what the car was made for. So why waste that fun for something stupid?

On the other hand, if you're just a collector, that's different.

 

lowest mileage FC I ever saw was the 10th AE recently acquired by Johnny Zoom with just under 7000 miles

the GTUs didn't have a sunroof but many Mazda dealerships failed to understand the whole "light as possible" theme of the car and added them for value. I thought this would be a huge ammount of stuff to changed (change headliner, cut roof, add motors, etc.) I remember reading this from Icemark I think.

 

Collector car definition is up for debate, most people don't consider any Japanese cars collectors items. Personally I would say a Toyota 2000GT and a Datsun 240Z are the first 2 Japanese collectors cars. There's also the first Honda and Datsun convertibles from the late 60's.

When they get old enough I think all the RX-7's and Z's will be collectable. I think when guys who grew up in the 80's and 90's will want them just like the older guys want the muscle cars now.

I have both my '88 vert and '85 300ZX insured under a collector's policy.

 

Many Mazda dealers didn't give a **** if the car was supposed to become rare. They have a purpose, and that purpose is to sell cars.
