Do you guys think that the carbon fiber hood fc3s.org makes really needs hood pins? Is it unsafe? Anyone on here been using the CF hood without hood pins at fast speeds and have no problem? Quote from the store site "These Carbon Fiber/Fiberglass Hoods come with the stock bolt on location points and a hood latch that is just like stock so there is no need for hoodpins. We do recommend using them though, as with any hood that is not metal." It says there isn't a "need" but its still recommended... so I'm just wondering. I plan on getting this soon and just want to make sure its safe so my hood doesnt fly up in my face.

so the hood pins are unnecessary then? i dont want my hood flying up and hitting the windshield sometime on the freeway or something, im just making sure the hood latch will hold it alright

 

i've heard from others something about the resin cracking around the latch mechanism on the hood and breaking the latch off... imo hood pins r just a good idea anyways

I've got the fiberglass hood and I don't see this hood flying up because of a broken latch area on the hood. There's a sturdy fiberglass framework underneath that hood, and the hood latch is riveted into that framework.

 

I have one from dave @ fc3s.org and I love it I have hit 130mph or so with out any problems, the quality on the hood is great.

 

it should hold like the stock hood but since it is an aftermarket hood made by a small "company" they will want to suggest the use of hoodpins so that on the offchance it does brake and open up, they can say we told you so. I don't blame them for suggesting them, but you most likely won't ever have a use for them. If you regularly hit over 100, I'd do it just to be extra safe, but for regular driving/occasional spirited driving, you don't need them.

 

Anyone know how much these Carbon Fibre Hoods go for? And are there any complaints about them?

 

go to fc3s.org off the top of my head i believe its $540 and a 10-14 production period

 

if people have had cracking problems around the latches that is not a good thing - I have generally heard great things about the hoods and many kudos for actually making them

 

My friends FG hood flew up and dented his roof and cracked his windshield because the latch broke off.

It was a replica from Versus though. They really suck.

I'm trying to figure out of a hood pin will be in my future when I get the CF TII hood.

As previously said, as long as you don't go over ~100MPH regualry, then you probably don't need pins, but I would get em anyway. Just paint them black and they will be not as visable.

 

Your comments are absolutely inaccurate. There has never been any issues with any of our hoods cracking at the latch, hinge etc. There have never been any issues reported to me of any latches breaking off either. I love good quality "big forum" info. Always so inaccurate...
