FC3S with HKS SSQV's

I have an SSQV on my car, running about 0.7bar, stock except for full exhaust and filter, but for some reason, under load, i cant hear the BOV at all, then in the shift from fourth to fifth, its REALLY loud! Anyone else have this problem? Is it FC's that the BOV is quiet or is it just my bov? Its new so i dunno whats goin on

I'm using the same BOV. I run a max of about .51 bar, and it blows off every shift pretty loud from that boost. I can even hear it blow off from as little as .05 bar, but that's the smaller valve, it's faint. You could possibly have a weak vacuum source or the BOV itself is internally dirty. Did you buy the BOV used?

I have one of the first SSQV, I'm running 7 psi and its sound is very, very faint; I tried adjusting the screw, but nothing changed. Previous owner told me it was like that since he bought the BOV (new), so I'm thinking maybe it's just like that...
I once drove in a EVO V with the same BOV, 12psi, and it was definetly louder, but nothing crazy. Maybe upgrading the turbo and raising the boost will produce a louder sound...
But it's cool, this way ppl thin it's a n/a and will race you more easily...

My friend is currently running the HKS SSQ on his 10th AE. Running the stock turbo, full 3" exhaust, and a huge front mount. The BOV is loud as hell though. If I am not mistaken, the HKS SSQ is one of the loudest on the market. If you want one that is less loud, there are others, personally I do not mind the sound, and girls seem to really like it.

adjusting it will help the loudness. I have my hks bov adjusted so that on surface streets it will be very quiet since I will not have the rmps very high. once on the freeway or when I am boosting up around 6k it screams.

I'm running 5psi for break-in and its still pretty damn loud when I shift or let off the throttle suddenly during boost. This is on a Brand new SSQV unadjusted from the box.

I hope you're running the BOV on a dedicated vacuum line?
A lot of people use T's and Y's to branch the vacuum line to the BOV.
Try not to do this.
If you do, keep the BOV on the main leg and not on the branch.
Throw the stock boost sensor on the branch side.

I'm having this same problem. I'll probably try to reroute the vaccum lines.. but my BOV isn't going off. Even at .7 bar, It doesnt sound like they way it use to be. I have the nipple near the bac going to my greddy boost gauge, pressure sensor and BOV. could be a little overkill.

interesting ted, ill have a look at how its set up tommorow morning... I just installed at as instructed by the manual - i bought the FC dedicated kit. A weak vacuum source could definatly be the culprit. If i loosen the spring fully, it makes a real elongated pssh/squeak hybrid noise which sounds awfully like a leak, so i tightened it up...

Ill have a squiz tommoorw and see what it looks like.

Do any of you have a video or sound clip of your FC with the HKS SSQV? I have heard it before but never on a FC. I am doing a j-spec swap in febuary and cant decide on a BOV, but im leaning towards HKS.

I have the hks "super bov". It has two vac fittings on it. IT wasn't working when i ran from two seperate sources. The only way it works is when the vacuum comes from a single source and is t-ed off to each of the nipples.

hope that can help you guys. also you have an hks sequential bov. the ssqbov is the one that looks like a bullet.

Can you guys get your blowoff valves to open during a standstill rev? Because I have a Blitz SuperSound, and that thing wont go off unless I have load on the motor. Should I just try adjusting the spring on my blowoff valve? Is there a proper cleaning procedure if it's because the inside is dirty? I mean it isnt a big deal, but I'm just curious if it's functioning correctly.

It will only sound for me if I rev above 4500rpm at a standstill, and even then its pretty quiet...

it should be fine since our cars dont boost when u rev them anyways, there isnt any excess pressure enough to open the valve or cause any damage
