FC3S computer

what does the FC3S computer do, and would it work on a first generation?
If it's mainly for controlling the emissions, is it necessary at all?

I would presume your talking about the ECU that controls the engine.
It controls the injectors and everything relating to the engine.
If your going to put it in a FB you might as well go with a standalone since the FC3 came with a vast array of sensors thyat would be a pain to install on a fb

it just controlls the clock, nothing to worry about. all the parts on the engine work magically by the engine willing them to work.

what's a standalone?
and I already have the rat's nest removed from the first gen, plus it's carburated. Would it still be doing anything (and does it work on the 12.6V setting?)

new to cars, only been working on them for a year and a half.
Sarcasm wouldn't be humorous to anyone and only harmful to me =\

He you guys are so mean :b

Without any context to assist me, you want to run a ECU why?

In an fb, i would think it only controls the emissions since it is carburated and with a distributor. You dont need one, unless you are trying to go with fuel injection.

Read this first http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engine_control_unit

that's what I was wondering if it had anything to do with the distributor, maybe it helps control turning on or off the fuel pump or start the engine when you crank it.

and I figured at the most it would just better the emission solenoids and whatnot.
but most are already removed from my carb

Yeah you don't need an ECU since it really doesn't do much on a carbed car ..maybe changes timing if it isn't vacuum actuated..also fuel pump isn't electric..i think it might be mechanical

this thread is all over the place...

does the FC 13B you plan on dropping in have a carb already on it? if not, it will NOT switch over from your original 12a and is useless for the 13B engine. you could buy a carb and manifold designed for the 13B and simplify it, but it won't be as efficient or be as cheap as dropping in the complete FC engine EXCEPT it will be more difficult to wire everything up to work properly. the carb is simpler to work on but see the original note about the 12a carb/manifold not working.

the 12a dizzy(ignition) WILL work with the 13B, just not the fuel/intake side of things.
