FC rx7 turbo II questions

Hi guys im new to this forum.
i used to be a honda fan, until my b16 turbo got stolen. so i just bought an 1987 rx7 turbo II. i got it for $1100. its in pretty decent shape. just some minor body work has to be done.
i know this model comes with a 185Hp. i was wondering what are some of the most effective mods i can do to it, without spending much. what cani do to reach 215whp.

thank you guys, i appriciate the patience. i dont know crap about fc's

you could also check your turbo for shaft play, and get it rebuild if needed.

That's a good place to start looking. Also, make sure your engine is in top shape before modding. I.E. compression. If you don't know how to check on a rotary check out the tech section at rotaryresurrection.com

Lots of stuff everywhere on this forum just make sure you search FIRST then ask questions, unless you want someone to make some dumb remarks. Other than that welcome to the forum.

Oh yeah, when you get the chance, snaps some pix of the car. I like seeing new pick up's.

5.5 is stock, stay there. Rotaries handle boost different than a piston motor so don't compare 5.5 on a RX to 5.5 psi on a honda.

Welcome aboard!

If that 133k are original miles, then there is no doubt in my mind that unless it had been pampered its whole life, would need a rebuild. Check the compression first. I don't understand why people don't do this first? If everything checks out, then start modding.

$2500 is a good start. Mods mentioned by got_boost are logical start.

Like stylEmon said, rotaries handle boost way different from pistons. Just make sure you do your research first. All of us were noobs at some point, so just read and learn.

you need to check the turbo for shaft play, in and out, or side to side. go from there

HAHAHA. To the original poster, the fuel pump and 550s max out quickly, so upgrade to walbro and 720 secondaries. Go from there. Most people run 10-12 lbs with aforementioned mods and a FCD. Just realize the TMIC heatsoaks and the stock turbo doesn't like >12lbs, unless you like detonation.

no problems as long as you do your routine maintenance. Unlike your Honda you will need to constantly check fluids, make sure you have plenty of oil and coolant. Replace the oil every 2500 miles, add 1 quart every 1000 miles(more or less depending on your driving).

Best mods as listed above= ~225-240hp

Racing Beat 3" turbo-back.

Intake (doesn't have to be the $200 Apex-i or HKS)

Wideband O2 sensor with logging program

Fuel controller (to squeeze those extra ponies and get you slightly better mpg)

Boost controller (to make sure you don't go past 10 psi)

PORT your Wastegate (puny 13mm)

FCD

MAX 10 PSI on stock fuel system (12 is pushing it to the limit and we don't want to be at the limit all the time)

Once you get tired/want more power: 300hp+.

Aftermarket turbo (I prefer BNR because it will match up to your exhaust manifold, turbo back and it's a direct swap into the FC.)

bigger injectors (size depends on the turbo you choose)

Bigger fuel pump (either walboro, venom, Supra depending on your turbo and application)

Standalone

engine porting (larger intake and exhaust ports)

Don't forget you'll also need to do your suspension, tires and your brakes.

iF YOU DO NOT TAKE CARE OF YOUR 7 IT WILL NOT LAST.
