fc radio din size

i went to crutchfield to look at aftermarket radios, and really want a double din, however none of them fit. I tried to lookup the din size and came up with zilch. has anyone ever hooked up a double din radio? I am looking at a flush mount double din with gps and dvd. basically a big touchscreen. none of the fold out screens. i want it to look like it was ment to be there.
Sorry if this should have been posted in the audio section, I just want to target fc owners and thier experiences. If you need to move it that is fine.
Thanks

I really don't know, but if DD is too big, then 1.5Din might work. Back when I worked car audio, they were called chryslers since they were the usual ones using that size.

If its not 1.5 then you just got to get a single din and get a kit.

Before I got my job at Boeing, I was at Best buy doin car stereos.

The FC is a double din, have fun with it. There is so much you can do with the Mazda double din. However, whatever directions come with your gear, you "consider" it... Meaning they're never RIGHT ON. So you might have to do a litle guess and check, cutting parts that you get (NONE OF WHICH ARE ON THE CAR, JUST MOUNTING BRACKETS). If you have any more questions im free to help anyone.

yeah I was pretty sure it is a double din, i will probably end up buying it locally so that i can make sure it will fit, maybe I will just measure the radio and see if I cant find specific dimensions of the replacement. i am also thinking of moving the fan controls down to the bottom and rigging something so that the radio is in the middle of the console. I will probably screw it up but i dont know if I like the radio so low.

Keep us posted on moving the heater controls. I know you can swap the stereo and heater controls on a E7-9 generation Lancer (google for it). I'm not too sure how deep the heater control box is, but it appears to be about the same size as a single DIN stereo.

Keep in mind that you'll have another project right behind it, in the way of designing a new install bracket for aftermarket stereos.

yeah, about the din size....

I was having the same problem finding a DD dash kit, but my own problem is a little more complex... my entire center console where you would mount the dash kit was ripped out....

I got the car pretty much for the cost of a fuel pump, and it runs great so im not going to bitch about the interior, but I will be needing to find stuff at the junk yard i guess. I want to get a nice system in my car, but right now this is what is holding me back.

The stock radio allows a double DIN quite easy, and can almost fit a double and half din.

You should be using the stock brackets for mounting a radio, not some aftermarket kits that never fits right
