im also a newbie i got my 7 about 1/2 a year ago. Im doing a engine swap now. i hav found by Reading and doing a search ( i think you should do this too, and many old heads will post that!!) that the 7 does need non-synthetic ( if im wrong some one plez correct me). i hav heard mix views on the winter thing. im going to be using my 7 this winter but i'll be taking steps to make it winter-prof. The truth is the underside of the car will rust do to the high amount of salt put on the snow and ice. I will be putting Rhino Lining to prevent rust and protecting the underside . ive heard of special winter tires being used and weights in the rear of the car. i'll just be getting good tired. Also if you hav a Turbo with a intercooler mod in the front i think its bad to drive in the winter but i hav a N/A

...ya what he said

But there are tons of rotor heads that will tell you that synthetic is just as good (if not better) than regular oil. I'm no expert on that so don't go dropping 4 quarts of synth into ur engine without consulting someone who knows better. I think u gotta remove your omp or something first.

And ya, if ur gonna drive it in winter get the underside rust-proofed. These old japanese cars rust like no tomorrow.
