perhaps someone is talking about a hatch cover. perhaps on a model equipped with a rear seat.

I suspect this is what you're referring to. When you close the hatch, the cover drops down to cover the "cargo" area. Not all cars came with them and special speaker covers with notches in them are required for mounting the cover.

It's definitely not a bad idea. I get remarks all the time about stuff in the back of my car, like it's any of their business.

So I got a dead body or two back there.

they are hard to come by. at this point, it wouldn't be a bad idea to contact a dealer and find out if mazda still produces replacements and the speaker grills necessary to accomidate the hatch cover. i'm not sure if they were only available on models with a rear seat or if you could get one on a model with no rear seat. i've never had a 7 with one so i'm not sure on that.

it came on my 1990 gxl, it was a two seater, i think their was one for the 2+2 though i might be wrong. but yeah i know they are for the two seater models and i belive they only fit on s5's because the whole car(s5) is an inch longer than the s4.

You are mistaken. No difference in length between series and assuming you have the speaker covers and interior mounts for the hatch cover it fits S4 just fine. 2+2 or not as well.

again it surpsies me the difference between the Uk and US market

in the UK all S5's came with these and you can pick them up from anywhere

but finding a set of rear buckets is like finding rocking horse ****

just a shame we are soooooooooooooo far away - as postage kills the deals before they even start
