And no, a 8" wide wheel will not fit with an offset of 37ET
do the math. if your stock wheel is already close you can figure it this way. if you get an 18x8 with a +40 offset, that means .5 inches is going to the inside and .5 inches going on the ouside. so, if the lip on the inside is 12.7mm closer, wouldn't you want to move the wheel out 12.7mm more than it already is. so...take 40mm and subtract 12.7 and you get a 27.3. so make it a +25 or +30mm offset and you should be fine. that's how i'd do it. hell, a +40 might still fit. since the strut angles inward as it goes up, the larger the wheel is, the more space you have between the wheel and strut. really tho, i'd be more concerned about how the wheel looks to the fender than interference with your strut.

I recently test fit a 16" X 8" +38mm offset Kosei wheel (no tire) on the front of my '90 na with stock suspension and the rim itself clears the strut by nearly 5/8". The face of the wheel is flush with the fenderline.

We can only offer you numbers as a GUIDE. Fitment depends a LOT of the tire itself, as tire cross sections vary widely even with identical spec numbers (i.e. 225/50/16). I can give you numbers that will will give you the best chance of clearing everything, but other combos will fit - you just need to try.
In front, 8" wide with a +25 to +30 offset will be best with a 225 wide tire.
There are people who claim that you can go 8" with a +40 up front that will clear, but I need to see it for myself to believe it. In general, tire manufacturers like Dunlop and Bridgestone have really buldgy sidewalls, and I doubt it would work in this instance. Michelin and Goodyear have straighter sidewalls that could work in this instance.
There is no way we can give you a definite answer unless someone has already run that exact combination of wheels and tires as yours.
