FC - A Love Story
Hi All! I'll take this opportunity to "officially" introduce myself and my background with the FC. Photos will be coming soon as I've been in Texas and now it is quite overcast and generally crappy in my area of Florida.
Back in 1994, I was playing Junior College Basketball and one of the guys on the baseball team had a gray, 1989, turbo FC. At the time and quite frankly not until recently, have I been a "car guy". However, something about this car just got me...I thought it was beautiful and I always remembered it.
Fast forward to April of 2006. A very good friend of mine who comes from a family of gear heads (he owns five rides and has driven just about everything) pulls up in a white RX7, Gen II. I come to find out that this is his mom's, garaged 10th AE that was bought brand new, been babied forever, and was just given to him since she never drove it. In a split second, I had the RX7 fever.
As luck would have it, my buddy knew a mechanic in town who was seriously into 7's and they were his favorite car to work on. So a week later, we went over to the garage to look around. It ends up the mechanic is REALLY into Gen 1's and thought that those were the models I was coming to look at. He "only" had four FC's and didn't prepare them. There were two verts, a GXL, and in the far back left of his garage, a glint of blue caught my eye.
After working my way back to the car and pulling various boxes and other items off it, uncovered exactly what I wanted, a base model FC. No sunroof, no power anything and the interior and exterior were clean with the exception of a few minor spots of paint fading.
The only problem...no engine...well actually, nothing in the engine compartment at all. The car had been sitting there for over five years.
I bought the car on the spot and for the last six months, the mechanic had pulled the best parts out of his other FC's or ordered new parts to get this one running. I've had it for two weeks now and it has been so worth the wait. My friends think I'm nuts, "Why didn't you just buy a Mercedes or the NSX you want" but they don't get that I've wanted this car for over ten years now and finally the right opportunity arose.
I've been reading these forums for six months now so I pretty much have most of my questions answered already...to the point that when posters don't search it's all I can do to scream, "SEARCH NOOB! I FOUND IT, YOU CAN TOO!"
Also, you won't hear any requests on how to turn my car into "dat hawt dorifto akshunz like FF3".
What you will get from me is I'd like to try and provide answers to questions about HP and mods. Every step of upgrading my car has been planned and I hope once a month to dyno the car before and after I've added a performance part. Hopefully to confirm or dispel notions about certain aspects of the beloved FCs for the good of the forum.
Anyone in Gainesville, FL or nearby like Jacksonville, I'd love to meet up and see what others have done with their FC's and get ideas. After all this time, I'm proud to be an FC Owner!

Congrats, I know how you feel, I have a 87 TII, second owner, bought from my Aunt, and also a 91 Vert, second owner, bought from an undertakers wife, less than 30K. Love them both.
