The engine in the Infini is the same as all S5 Turbo models.

The only Infini that made more power than the standard turbo models was the Infini IV, due to a better flowing exhaust system.

Yeah, it really depends on when in the series you see his car too. It changes quite a bit.

That's Zooks FC, pretty close to Ry's from Initial D.

who the hell is Zook?

Ryosuke ppl, not Ry....

Remember boys and girls.....say no to Tokyopop!

I swear Ryosuke's FC was just another big marketing tool. That being said, I was always a favorite of the battle stage variant matched with his RS Watanabe wheels.

I did like his battle stage Mazdaspeed MS-01 wheels as well. I really think Mazda sponsored portions of battle stage, now that I think of it.

The RS Watanabe 8-spokes are his winter wheels. At one point he has what look like 5Zigen 5-spokes.

The mirrors aren't RE Amemiya ones exactly. Similar, but different.

He has two bucket seats that aren't the stock Infini one.

The steering wheel seems to be similar to the stock Infini one, but might be a Momo aftermarket...

His exhaust seems to change between right and left side exit...

He has either a high-flow turbine (a hybrid), or the stock turbine (he changes it back the stock turbine for less lag, but they don't specify whether he switches back to the high-flow).

He has DTTS eliminators (obviously).

It has a two-plate clutch (overkill for 350 HP).

And coilovers, obviously...

As of Vol 36, he seems to have no FTP lights.
And actually, he has the stock folding mirrors in vol 36. Which may just be Shigeno being forgetful.

It looked like he raced those Watanabes against Kyoichi and the Evo III in second stage?

I always wondered what those original first stage wheels were.....

Hey, he could be good enough to drift on stock DTSS bushings.......it is an anime after all.

MaczPayne was a bit closer. It's a 1990 Infini III.

It is indeed a FEED lip offered from Fujita during the 90s. It's appearance is a little different depending on the manga--in some images the center crossmember in the facia is present, and in others it's been cut out and the spoiler is cut lower. The stock one-piece lip was used in the Chinese movie, less detailed manga images, and models for simplicity's sake.

The rear spoiler is stock; the Mazdaspeed spoiler has a deck to hold the spoiler higher. Everything else not mentioned by Macz is stock, including the rear bumper, skirts, etc. Ryosuke switched to a single exhaust to increase torque and reduce weight.

The engine without major mechanical modification, and is variably tunable to a max output of 350 hp.

Interior is basically unchanged, save for the Momo steering wheel, cabin reinforcing, and bucket seats. Interestingly, during the Project D arc, the interior was given a custom white reupholstering and the rear seats were reinstalled, probably to mark Ryosuke's withdrawl from street racing.

The stuff you see in the anime isn't canon until it's either mentioned or shown VERY CLEARLY in the manga.

IMO, the white interior in that ONE episode of Stage Four was just a random choice the animation director made.

They have to guess a lot of stuff due to how the manga art is kind of inconsistent, and it doesn't always show enough detail (ie, does the AE86 have one bucket seat, or two? And they never actually mentioned them installing harnesses in the manga...)

As much as I'd like to, I can't read the mangas since I can't read Japanese, to my great misfortune. But, I'd shoot myself in the face before I sit through a TokyoPop english version of the anime. The nice thing about the anime though, is it forced a degree of consistancy and an extreme attention to detail; you can make out the small details like the correct placement of the fog light switch, though some misunderstandings were present in the first season like the 9K tach (though it could be suggested Ryosuke swapped it out to get a better reading on his modified engine). It's difficult to say with is and isn't canon from a visual standpoint with the manga because of the lack of detail like you said. For instance in your example, in the anime they make a point to show Takumi and many of the other drivers only using the four-point harness when racing; during daily drives they're folded back around the sides of the seat and the standard harness is being used.

Still, there are nasty inconsistancies that make it difficult to say. In the mangas, the FC uses real stickers and badges from companies like Greddy, but in the anime they had to be changed to the familiar fictional ones like "Shift Down" because of licensing issues. In that case I agree with you too, I definitely consider the manga badging to be the car's "real" appearance.

It's weird, the more in depth people go on this answer. The more I think they are ricers.

The engine is totally stock besides a high-flow turbine (which is a Japanese term for a hybrid stock turbo)... and what I assume an FMIC (according to the anime at least... you can't confirm it's not there in the manga).

Also, Japanese isn't that hard to learn... if you've got about...4 years to watch anime and study it, another year to go to Japan, and then another year to practice translation... haha

So I went up to Mt Akina the other night ready to race. I duct taped my hand the steering wheel to pratice my god hand technique. I havent gotten racing shoes yet, but god foot is working well without shoes.

So im going downhill and see this black evo shooting flames, I guess he was using his missfiring system. I pull up behind him, turned off my headlights and started to proceed into the gutter. ALl of a sudden my tire pops and I crash my car. I shoulda bought a Hatchi!
