FC insurance?

I know FC's are registered as sports cars. I'll be taking Driver's Ed in a year or so, and I've always loved FC's. But the insurance issue applies.

I'd have to get comprehensive and liability, and that wouldn't be cheap.

Or would it?

I hear that having a red car makes your insurance higher. Also that it's more expensive if it only has two seats.

Now I'd love to get an NA FC and fix it up. Anybody know what I can do to get cheap insurance?

Do a search on the word insurance... all the threads and info will keep you busy for a while. But in general auto insurance depends on each individual because many factors are taken into account: location, age, car stats, driving record, how many other policies you are on with the same company (house/fire insurance), and how many cars are insured under the plan just to name a few. It is pretty pointless to ask someone else what they pay.

Remember that the value of the car makes a HUGE difference in the cost of insurance.
FC:
2 seats (most of em anyway)
sports car
Red
Rear Wheel Drive

Same things can be said for a new Diablo but they certainly don't cost the same to insure.

Things to do to lower your insurance rate:

Be on your parrent's policy. You'll get the multi-car discount and all

Listen up here because this is super important: do NOT get tickets. whatever you do, do NOT get a DUI.

Check to see if they give a discount for an alarm. The discount I got for the alarm in my other car actually PAID for the alarm.

Shop around for the best rate. It can very by ammounts in the hundreds of dollars.

See if they'll give you a rebate or whatever for taking performance driving courses.

Did I mention you should drive safely? No tickets is your best bet for not paing out the wazoo.

Good luck.

ilike2eastricers is exactly correct. For example, Ive been driving for 30 years (yeah, I'm 47) and I've had no tickets for over 10 years. My 1988 RX7 is one of three cars I own, and I pay $300/year to insure it., and I live in New Jersey where auto insurance rates are just about the highest in the nation. Someone in their teens will pay a lot more than that because they're a higher risk because they have less experience, and, as a group, they tend to have more tickets and accidents. So,...The simple asnwer to your question is to call an insurance agent, tell him your age, and ask for a quote.

I wouldn't bother with comprehensive, but that's my opinion. The car isn't worth **** to the insurance company, no matter how "mods" you do.

yea seriously what harm could it do to call your insurance agent and get a quote? It's not like there gonna hold anything against you. A good thing to do would be to have you as a designated driver on the slowest and most family car you have while having your parents as the primary driver on the 7 if you pick one up in the future. Also do well in school. Good student discount baby!

Between turbo models and compared to NA models, the price difference isn't too much as long as you don't tell them its a turbo.

Oh, insurance rates are pretty low with the 2+2 FC's if some of you guys were wondering.

I only have liability though. I don't have any tickets on my record or any accidents that were my fault. Plus my dad is registered as the primary driver which considerably lowers the insurance.

I've never been asked what color my car is when dealing with an insurance company. If they don't ask, don't offer the info.

I pay 1200 a year for 3 cars and I'm only 20. 88 T2, 94 chevy cavalier, and a 99 ford crown vic. Full coverage on the t2 and vic, just liability on the chev. No tickets ever, but i got the whole multi-policy discount thing, auto, home, life etc...

One question though:

Why would they ask if your car is turbo or not or what color it is? This is of course assuming that the VIN # tells everything about the car that came stock from the factory.

You would only need comprehensive coverage if you are financing the car. IMO it is not smart to finance such an old car. Do what you like, but just remember that "I told you so". If you just want comprehensive even if paying cash for the car, please look at the cost of the coverage, and you will probably find that you are paying nearly as much insurance every year as you paid to buy the car. You may find that it is worth the cost of the insurance, but it probably will not be worth it if you look at your risk vs. cost.

I have never had an insurance company ask the color of the vehicle in 18 years. Nowadays, they just enter the VIN into a computer. The VIN does not have the paint code in it. The VIN does have turbo/non-turbo information, as well as coupe/convertible information. The turbo and non-turbo coupe have always been the SAME rate for me with Progressive, USAA, and State Farm. The convertible is more expensive, though, as is the 3rd Gen RX-7.

Adding the rear seats usually doesn't make any difference because the 2+2 configuration is usually considered a sports car anyway.

Different insurance companies use different methods to compute their rates, so you will need to get quotes on your own.

It depends on your age, where you live, marital status, type of insurance, and whether you have a good or bad driving record. Its not a set rate all over the US and Canada for RX-7s.

I pay $111.00 a month for full coverage and that covers a 94 Ford Explorer, a 96 ford escort and a 86 RX-7

Actually, my insurance CO will cover my car for over book value. I had asked them about an agreed value policy, but they say that it can only be done for cars 25 years + old. But being concerned about losing out on the mods I've done and the condition the car is in, I asked what could be done? He said to keep reciepts or at least pictures of the car and items I'm concerned about. If it is stolen, this is the only way to prove anything and that I would get my money. When the car was my primary, I was paying 550.00 a half for full coverage and a $250 deduct. I'm 22 with a clean record. Now that my oldsmobile is the primary, I think the RX has dropped quite a bit...but I'm not quite sure how much yet.

Most times insurance companies will try to give benefits to students below the age of 20. I know I get a 'good student discount' for getting atleast a 3.0GPA. Also, ask about any programs you can do that'll lower your cost more. I've gotten one ticket, I'm 17, and my insurance is still fairly low... Than again, I drive a '94 cutlass, anybody want to buy it?

Actually, the good student discount continues through college if you go and if upon graduation you have a 3.0 cumm then your good student discount continues till you're 25 (at least with State Farm). At that point, your rates drop like a rock.

..... then you get screwed by the police after they pull you over for some BS reason then lie through their teeth in court just to make sure the ticket goes through. Thank you over-arrogant college campus police for making me pay 1800/year!

No car this schoolyear. Take THAT popo's! I will always spit in your direction when you drive by and key your cars when you're not looking. Bastards.

Haha... yeah. Cops can definately be arrogant *****. For instance, my brother just got his first speeding ticket. Here's part of the conversation:
Cop: You know, those clear corner lenses you 'street racers' put on your cars are illegal.
Jason (brother): Officer, thost are factory with the car.
Cop: If you knew what was good for you, you'd shut your mouth.
J: Sorry officer, but they are. (they are, duh!)
Cop: Hmm.. Yeah, I'll check into that.

What a stoopiht ****...

Would having a 10AE make your insurance any different than just a regular TII???

Does units matter? Like can you still get a student discount at like 11 units? Do you have to keep updating every semester and send your insurance company transcipts to keep the discount?

Just curious, thanks in advance.
