First off STARTER!!!

second the safc, you said it reads 30%, if you are talking about the throttle position then thats normal for an afc, although i do believe it can be fixed (check the safc discussions)

you should be able to test your TPS to see if it is working using by using your safc if the throttle percentage doesn't change and your safc is correctly connected then you may have a problem with your TPS.

I you want to take the safc out of the loop completely you can disconnect the yellow and white wires of the safc and connect the two wires that were connected to the yellow and whit wires.

Lastly a lot of your problem could very well be in the alternator.

I had a bum alternator in a 72 dodge dart and it seemed to cause the engine performance to degrade as you have mentioned as the battery died, until it the battery finally died.

If your compression tested out good i would test your battery voltage.

sorry I wasn't very clear, when you push down the gas pedal you should see the throttle percentage change on the safc.

Also which turbo timer do you have? I have the little pen shaped Apexi one and does all kinds of ****. as far as yours counting down once you turn it off thats what it is supposed to do.

Sounds like you may have run the battery down. Make sure the battery cables are tight and then charge it up fully. Connect up a voltmeter and then turn on the headlights without the car running. If the battery drops below 12V, then it's bad.

In my opinion, the only way to check for vacuum leaks is to fix them. Pull the manifold and replace all the vacuum hoses underneath as they are 20 years old and will be leaking.

Also check the TID/black airbox pipe for a huge crack.
