Have you tried flooring your gas pedal when the car starts to flood? Your car will shut the pump off if the pedal is floored while cranking.

to prevent the flooding, my brother would get some vice grips and kink the gas line, then runn the car till it died then unkinked it. that usually fixed the flooding issue for him.

But with an S5, you dont have to do that. Flooring the pedal is the same thing.

Old / dirty injectors need to be rebuilt, cleaned, & blueprinted. Otherwise they will continue to bleed-off pressure from the fuel line into the engine once the car is shut off.

When you check or replace the pulsation dampener screw every 60-100K miles, you might consider having this done as well. Several websites offer rebuild & blueprinting services.

Note as mentioned above Series V (89-91) RX-7s have a manual fuel cut option to help in starting. Press the pedal to the floor when cranking to engage it, and then release to start the car.

No, this is not normal.
If it's doing it contantly, the engine needs a tune-up and / or requires a rebuild due to low compression.
