FC to FD tranny swap.

For you guys with a FC to FD engine swap, which tranny did you use? I have the fd tranny in but have no speedo cable and the electronic sensor is not applicable to the fc dash. Or is it? The speedo gears are different from fc to fd.

of course i do understand that you already have the FD tranny

The speedo cable is the least of your problems if you are trying to use the FD tranny. The tranny mount is different (PPF) and you will need to fab a driveshaft.

Much easier to use the T2 tranny.

why do i need to fab a new driveshaft? I swapped the whole engine and tranny and mounted it to where it sat. I have already made a new mount, the car is rippin it up, hard. I figured the 96 tranny would be a little less worn than one 9 years older. I know for a fact that it had a hard life before i got it so I decided to use the newer one. Plus the gears felt less sloppy. I just thought that there might be a simple answer to my question. Guess not.

You'd need an FD clutch, a tranny crossmember at the very least, most of the other stuff should fit, but of course there would be complications.

I'd say, if it is a decent tranny, you could sell it, and have the TII tranny rebuilt.

If you have a working tranny in the car...leave it. You probably risk screwing more stuff up trying to swap trannys.

Stay w/ the one you got till it breaks...then swap.

I'm assuming you have a working manual tranny in the car...which it seems after reading your posts.

I swear the FD was longer or shorter, might be wrong, been awhile since i had them side by side.

Sounds like you already have it in the car???

Understood. I was there before and i do recall that if you swap bellhousing. Meaning using the FC bellhousing, so you can use the push-type clutch, the the FD input shaft was longer. Stuck out further, hence (to me) meaning the tranny was not same overall measument as T2, leading me to say you need to fab a d-shaft.

I just thought that there might be a simple answer to my question. Guess not.
I stated using a T2 tranny would be easier, that not simple enough?

This is all from memory, i was going to do this but realized it was such a PITA, that i didnt even get to fabbing the mount or mocking it up. By all means, i didnt say that it was impossible, if you have the materials and tools go for it, and do a write up. I'm sure other members would be interested.

Good luck.

**Noob question alert**

Can the FD Transmission handle more abuse, than an FC TII Tranny? I assumed it would, because the FD's increased power output of the FC TII...

The engine AND tranny are in the car and running fine. My original question was about the speedo cable. Not if it would work or how hard it was to put it in. Thanks guys.

I don't have any personal experience w/ this. However, I have heard that the FD tranny will handle just as much abuse as a TII tranny. Only the TII tranny may last longer b/c it hasnt had to put up w/ the power levels most FD trannys have.

NICE! never seen anyone who had a FD tranny. Can you post some pics?

My original question was about the speedo cable.
Check to see if there a speedometer shop around you, they would be able to make an adapter.
