lock the pass door from the inside, hold the handle (from outside) as if you were opening it. close door then release handle, door should be lock if not then your f@#$. this is what lunardeathgodwas trying to say. its a safety feature to prevent locking yourself out (forgetting keys were inside when/if you lock door from inside) tells you in the owners manual.

Awsome, doing it that way works. So it being a safety feature, if I want to lock that door I always have to hold the handle from the outside up?
On a side note, my key works for all my trunk and driver side but does not work on the passenger side, any ideas other than the possibility of a door handle replacement? Thanks again guys,

i cant believe he didnt know to pull the handle, anyways.
does your key turn in the passenger door? is it stuck? do you feel like its crunching everytime you put the key in or out? if so your tumblers in your lock could be done. happened to me when i made a copy of my original key to make a spare. i went to test it in my passenger door and i guess the key was too new and destroyed the tumblers.

As far as the key goes, it enters and exits without resistance. When I try to turn the key it won't turn. I feel resistance as if the key or something inside will break if I exert any more pressure.

The previous owner probably did change the door handle and lock cylinder on the passenger side. You should be able to get a locksmith to rekey it for you if you take in the driver's side cylinder or hatch cylinder as well if you want it to match the other key.
Another possibility is that something may be jammed inside the cylinder. Somebody jammed a screwdriver in my old S5 to break in and the spring-loaded metal door that usually covers the lock opening broke off and got jammed in the cylinder. Some RX-7s had plastic doors covering the keyhole on models that had keyhold illumination; these are really prone to breakage. You might want to remove the cylinder and make sure there isn't something stuck in there.

Are door lock cylinders as complicated as motorcycle ingition cylinders? Or are they much easier to work with? I know some cylinders are compressed in will this fall apart if I open it?

When I pulled off the panel I locked and unlocked it and watched the linkage, it moved firmly. I however, do not know exactly how the locking mechanism works @ the handle. In any case, if it was the linkage, wouldn't that safety procedure not work if the linkage was loose? I could be mistaken. I'm leaning more towards what david mentioned; a tumbler or safety cover broke blocking complete access to the locking mechanism. What stumbles me though is that even from the inside I cannot lock the car unless I use that technique. Can the damaged cylinder prevent the car locking normally from the inside but still allow locking via safety procedure?

Why you hating! I knew that some doors did that, however, they also stayed locked when the door was manually locked from the inside. This door will open no matter what unless I lock it utilizing that technique. From my experience thats not normal.

if you want you could just upgrade your locks to Solex locks, that way no one can tamper with your locks and you have a separate key to get in your car.
