FASTBRAKES FC3S big brake upgrade

I have been talking with fastbrakes.com via email for a short time.
Their reasearch and knowledge has been used with great results by many teams in the RedLine Time attack, NASA, SCCA, as well as many other series. It was a few freinds of mine in the TT series that directed me to them. They use proven parts at a good price!

Today they realeased their kit for the FC3S

1986-1991 RX7 12 inch 4 piston kit $1,250.00
Finally a new kit for the FC3S chassis that is affordable. Using a 2 piece 12.2 inch rotor and the Wilwood Superlite caliper, this kit will give you the control and performance the factory brakes only dreamed of. Kit includes the Superlite 4 piston calipers, performance brake pads, 2 piece 12.2 inch slotted/dimpled rotors and front braided steel brake lines.

Its pretty reasonable. I actually spec'd this kit out directly from wilwood and with my needs, it still only ran $1300 or so, and I can only assume that fastbrakes' kit comes w/ the adapter needed to fit the wilwood caliper which I was going to have custom made... this sounds like a great deal.

What choice of pads do they have? They just say performance. Napa has performance pads

What about different caliper options - 6-pot maybe?

They mention nothing of an adapter, is that included, are we on our own, or does Wilwood make a caliper that bolts right up?

What internal rim diameter are they suggesting

What are they suggesting be done about the rear balance now being off?

Wow, that's a good deal. I've been talking to someone at revolution brake about something similar, they offered me something pretty much the same as that but with 12.0 rotors instead of 12.2 for $1500ish. Will the 12.2 fit under the factory 16" wheels? The 12.0 should, which is important to me since I don't want to have to buy new wheels and tires. I have a decent amount of money tied up in wheels and tires for street and track use.

Do what I did, shoot them an e-mail with your specific needs.
They reply within 24hrs.

It is a complete kit. Yes it does inclued the adaptors. Which will be manufactured when you order the kit!
As for balance, I am unsure since it is still a four piston caliper, we shall see.

I have asked some of those questions also (brake balance, rim size) and am awaiting a reply.
I will probably get my answers on Monday and will let you know.

I've been emailing them lately as well. They sound like they'll do pretty much anything you want and it does include the adapter bracket.

The kit I built w/ Wilwood was using a 6POT caliper which has the same bolt hole locations as some of their 4POT. I'm confirming w/ fastbrakes which model caliper they are using. It would seem that you would be able to order the kit with a different caliper if needed (especially if they're making the brackets) but it'll cost more. I'm willing to spend more to get it spec'd out just how I want...

Balance shouldnt be a huge difference w/ their standard kit as its still a 4POT (not sure how big the valve body/pistons are though) but I can't imagine they are dramatically different enough. The bigger benefit of the caliper is the piston design, and the weight savings. At worse, you could customize your master cylinder w/ a balancer and adjust it yourself as you see fit. Lots people are going to want different brake setups depending on what they use the car for....

Here is some info on the kit.

We always size the piston in the caliper to work with the stock master cylinder and proportioning valve. Your stock calipers (if they are the 4 piston ones) have 1.41” pistons, so we would use a 1.38” piston caliper. That would keep the bias the same.

They are also looking into creating brackets that would relocate the stock 4-piston caliper out and combine it with an oversized rotor. This is for people like myself, who mostly drive on the street; but do occasional track days. I am quite happy with the feel and strength of the Mazda 4-pot's. The larger/ better designed rotor would help solve my fade issues though. As a benefit to the larger circumference; it will also give the stock caliper a longer "leverage arm". So they will be a little stronger too. Mostly I just want to go a few more laps before fade sets in.
Read below for there reply on that.

The rotors we use in the kit are quite a bit wider than the stock rotors, so the stock calipers won’t fit over them. It may be possible to adapt a thinner rotor that would work with the stock caliper; I’d have to take a look and see.

I will let you know when I hear back!

if they are looking into making brackets and use the stock calipers may be have them take a look at this thread

Yeah, some of the benefit of going to big racing rotors is the increased thickness and fancier internal venting design, which would necessitate the aftermarket calipers.
