Question FAQ related stereo question...

Ok, last night my friend and I were trying to install his new deck in his 87 NA, so I printed off the wiring info from the faq. we got everything hooked up exept the speakers, tested it, everything lit up worked fine. The problem is the info on the speakers doesnt say which wire is power and ground. we tried one speaker at a time hooking up both ways and still no sound, so im stumped. (If I had a light tester it wouldnt be a problem) So does anybody know which are which?

"Front Speakers (maximum of a 15 watt peak from the radio):
LtGreen/Red= Left
LtGreen/Black= Left

LtGreen= Right
LtGreen/Yellow=Right

Rear Speakers (if applicable, if you have the amplified rear speakers again the Maximum of 15 watts peak is all the stock speaker amp input can handle):
Brown= Left rear
Brown/White= Left Rear

LtBlue= Right Rear
LtBlue/Orange=Right Rear"

top pins in the factory plugs are the speaker +

You can also check (if you cut the plugs off) with a small AA battery. When you tap the + wire with the + side of the battery and the - wire with the _ side of the battery (for just a second) the speaker will pop outwards. If the speaker pops in you have the - and + leads backwards.

I don't remember off hand, but on some models, both the front and rear speakers are amplified. The amp for the fronts is under the glove box, the amps for the back are attached to each speaker.

It's best to run new wiring.

Question

Ok So here's my other question. I have all the wires connected to each speaker, I have power to the deck and a CD in playing but no sound? The only wire left, I haven't used is the White "Factory AMP" one. But when I touch it to any of the speaker wires it gives me sound, but when I turn the car off and turn it back on again I have no sound and have to touch the wires all over again to get sound from the speakers. Can someone help me out with this so i help him get his deck working. thanks.

factory amp (white) will need to be hooked up to the amp output of your aftermarket radio.

Or you will need to bypass the factory amps
