Fan shroud ???
Ok here is the deal, I have a 1991 RX NA that was originaly automatic and is now converted to 5- speed(the best choice I ever made). While converting to stick shift two rails were fabricated to adjust for the transmition mount bolting position. (Whatever, you know what I mean) anyway as a result the engine sits at a slight angle causing the fan to scrape and ultimately break a whole in the fan shroud it does not hit the hood when closed. I've seen plenty of RX-7's with no fan shroud and sometimes no fan... I curreently have no fan shroud and was told that the purpose of the fan shroud was to create suction of air past the radiatior th help in cooling. That makes sense. My car has never overheated, so I didn't think much of it untill the other day when I was driving on highway, the temp gague went way above normal, this was not fun, I turned on heater kept driving gague relaxed. So the question is, is there a method , a trick or secret for removing the fan and the shroud without the risk of overheating.
Sure. All you need to do is install a electric fan, preferrably one with a shroud on it like the Flex-a-lite Black Magic. It is about $180 from either Summit Racing or Jegs. The fan works great, frees up the engine to rev quicker and gives alot more room to work in the engine.
so with this Flex-a-lite Black Magic i can remove fan and shroud? where does it mount ? Isn't there already an electric fan in front of the radiator?
