Fan Clutch?
Went to the mechanic to get my a/c fixed, he fixed it and says the hose blew because my fan clutch is broken, so he says he "bolted" it if i recall. So now when I get past 3k, I hear the worst sound ever. How much are fan clutches?
New ones from the dealer are expensive, around $200 if I recall correctly. I have a used fan and clutch that shows plenty of resistance laying around the garage if you want to buy a used one.
The fan clutch uses a silicon oil viscous fluid in two chambers inside.
The Bi-metal strip bends outward as it warms and opens the valve from the reservoir side to the clutch side.
Centripetal force provides the pumping action to move the fluid.
After 100,000 miles the bearing seals wear, and the bearing lube weakens the clutch fluid's grip.
The s4 clutch increases it's bite gradually with temperature rise.
The s5 clutch is more on-off. (It just coasts until is gets warm)
Once they are warm, the fan speed goes up directly with engine speed to about 4000 RPM.
As the engine revs higher the fan stays at ~4K.
If your warmed up fan only revs up to ~2500 RPM, it's bad.

I have talked to an Aisian car AC specialist & cut up two of these clutches to see why they cost so much.
E-fans rule..

Ditch the clutch fan. Robbs power and its a faulty system. Go to the bone yard and get yourself a stock electric fan with shroud from a 90-96 ford escort for 30 bucks and it will be the best fan you will ever own. Has three speeds low/med/high mine is set to medium and at traffic lights I can open the door and I can feel it pushing hot engine and exhaust air under the car. Almost scared to set it to high in a few months when its really hot. Get one
