Fabrication of OMP linkage after s4->s5 UIM swap
Fabrication of OMP linkage after s4->s5 UIM swap
When I replaced the S4 intake on my 87 NA with an S5 intake several years ago, I bent the old S4 linkage to work. It binds up a bit and makes the opening of the throttle plates a little jerky.
At the time I really didn't want to go premix. I still don't. Has anyone successfully rigged up a cable mechanism for this or has anyone had success bending the linkage and kept a smooth action?

I just bent the top of the S4 rod...
Here is how I did it; the bottom of the rod (virtually everything you can't see) stayed exactly the same, with only the top part bent.

what semed to work best was actually bending it while it was attached to the MOP.
And yes it will take multiple bends and trys to find a good location that does not bind.
I guess you could use a cable, but the draw back is that you would have to fabricate a method of holding the cable at each end.

I am planning on doing the manifold swap myself but without the rod. I planned on using one of the many throttle cable kits out on the market. There shouldnt but much to it but cutting the cabel to length and the endlocks to keep it in place. Using the cable tube should keep the cable from chaffing on anything. Also use thread lock on the setscrews of the endlocks. I have had one of them back out on a gokart
