Extreamely hot air coming from under the car. Exhaust?

When i get out of my 87 tII after a drive, spirited or just a run to the corner store, the air coming out from under the car is so hot that it is very uncomfortable and it makes it hard to breath. I hope you understand what i'm talking about.

I know that our cars, especially the turbos, have very high exhaust temps, but is that normal? It's so hot that my rear bumper is warm to the touch in the center. Also the exhaust gas coming out is much too hot to hold your hand in front of the tail pipe...

any ideas?

It's gonna be warm, but it shouldn't be that warm, and you're talking like radiant heat emanating from under the car correct?. It is a distinct possibility you have a clogged cat. The cars stock have an exhaust overheat sensor by the cat cause it will heat up like that if its clogged.

I have the same problem. If I drive for a while then park, open the door and just swing my legs out the door I can feel a lot of heat radiating out from the bottom. Or just by walking around the car after a drive. But my temp gauge never shows overheating.

You'd never see it on the gauge. Its a warning light in the idiot cluster thats says ext sys overheat or something to that effect.

its very dangerous when it gets that hot, never ever park your car in dry grass. it can catch on fire then.... You dont want a worse case senerio. I belive your cat is clogged. Mines were and I remember once I looked under the car and the cat was red and I felt the heat like crazy, had it cut off and put a str8 pipe, then it was gone, but then again. I drove with the window open and got out smelling like gas and burning eyes jajajaja
