externaly gated?

Is it possible to just go to an external wastegate instead of porting the stock one for creep protection? Just wondering. Thanks in advance guys.

Search for blueTII he had a pretty nice external gate set-up for his hybrid turbo. But it is a lot of work, I would suggest porting your stock wastegate, it's really easy and cheap.

if you are on a stock turbo and have exhaust and a boost controller - port the wastgate

the only REAL need for going external is when you fully upgrade the turbo and require a 40mm wastgate to be able to control boost.

Granted there are many benefits to external, its really doesn't become "necessary" unless you have a full upgrade (or hybrid I suppose) not to mention the fact that buying a manifold, decent chunk of change, or having one custom made, nice chunk of change, or making one yourself, nice chunk of time is really the only way to do it, and on a stock turbo there would be no horsepower gains that are considerable, the only gain would be added control - but the stocker is easy to control with a nicely ported wastegate anyways...
