Car alarm. Avital 2200 install. Questions.
Hey, I am going to be installing an Avital 2200. Just wondering if there is a write-up somewhere that has been done for car alarm installs? Or if anyone could tell me the best placement for the main unit?
Mostly I am curious about...:
Placement of main unit?
Tying into the factory alarm system?
What do I need to tie it into my power locks?
Thanks! Any info would be great.

With the exception of a door popper, the stocker works rather well, unless you want the thing to go off everytime someone farts in the direction of the car.
Oh wait, haha wrong Matt with a letter after the name... Ok I'm the n00b now... LOL

Does the stock alarm have a shock sensor? What if someone breaks a window out? And I would also like to be able to unlock it remotely with the remote.
What does the stock system offer? I have seen the little switches in the door panels in case someone sticks something in the window, like a slim jim, or is that switch for something else?

Yeah I'm an idiot and thought you were a different forum member... nothing to see here, move along!
If someone breaks a window, they have to unlock the door, if they unlock the door the alarm goes off.

if you stick a srewdriver in the driver door and pop the lock it turns off the factory alarm. after markit is the best way to go, I put in alarms for aliving if you want a wire diagram I can fax it or email. let me know what year and model.....

Whats an aftermarket going to do for you that the stock won't? Make more noise? It's not like anybody pays attention to them anyway. Unless you set it up to do an ignition cut (which even then is easily bypassed), I really don't see why any aftermarket unit would be worth the time.

I worked at a car dealership installing factory alarms and they are junk , my alarm has a pager to it so I will know when my alarm is going off or it will show me if the doors are open ... after markit alarms are good it depends who installs... my alarm cuts off the starter and the coil and the fuel pump...

I live in Waco so I'm used to dealing with this kinda trouble. If you want all of the extra goodies an alarm offers go ahead and get one (though your question is how to install one and I've never bothered so I can't help you.) I'm going to get one for remote start (I've been practicing leaving my car in neutral for a few months now) and I'm planning on attempting a C6 ignitiion and entry system swap.
For now I have a fuel cutoff and battery cutoff switch in non obvious places, my stereo has a decent guage steel wire going through some of the extra bolt holes on the back and it is bolted to my firewall with very little slack at all. A thief would have to pop the hood and undo the bolt which isn't obvious.
I came out of a party on Halloween to see a guy with a foot on my dash trying to yank my stereo out and failing miserably. A new stereo surround and popping the glove box back into place and I was as good as new.
