External relay for wiper switch?
Does anyone have pictures of an external ("normal sized") relay wired up to a wiper switch cluster?
I did some searching, but the pictures that were posted in one thread just came up as a red x.
I tried de-soldering the old relay, the hidden 3rd relay, without much luck. I figured I would try to rig up a external relay first before getting a new switch cluster.

I believe the member who had the large relay wired up was SureShot?
I'm not 100% sure, but I think I screwed up the holes in the circuit board where the relay legs are soldered in. I was able to desolder the legs, but I broke the relay while pulling it out.
I was just brainstorming, thinking I could go: Stock wiper switch=> aftermarket relay=>stock wiring=>motor.

Been there done that. The circuit board is notoriously poor quality. The traces come off the board very easily. I screwed mine up completely. Contact Icemark and send him your control unit. He'll fix it up perfectly. Thats what I did. I rigged a simple switch to work my wipers while the switch unit was being repaired. I hooked a switch into the fuse block and jumped some wires on the switch unit connector to make it work temporarily.

The wiper motor is only looking for a ground on one of two wires in order to work. Put a gnd on the blue/red wire or the blue/white wire with the key to ON, and the wipers move back and forth. The power is already there. The wiper switch works by putting a gnd on one of the above wires.
If you use a aftermarket relay, you just run two wires for it's coil from the base of the destroyed stock relay base. Then you match the input/outputs of the stock base to your new relay. The new relay can lay just inside the instrument surround with no problem at all.
IF you can't figure out how to do the above, then just find the wiper plug and disconnect it. Chunk the switch or leave it in place not connected to the harness plug. Then run the blue/red wire and the blue/white wires to two seperate switches. One side of each switch goes to gnd. Flip the either switch and the wiper motor runs IF the key is to ON. One switch will be make the motor slower than the other. All other functions of the switch won't exist.
Read this thread: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ht=wiper+relay I posted a couple of dark pictures of a relay attached as I sorta described above.
The NEW wires are actually on the OTHER side of the board of where the original relay was attached.
