Expert help please on TPS resistence sweep

I was testing my tps with a voltmeter, for a nice sweep from 1 - 5k olms going from closed to wide open throttle.

During the sweep just where about 2 olms should be I get break in the reading and for a second the reading flashes *1.00.0*, then *0.00* then goes right to like 3 ohms. - so I think maybe the tps is bad right?

But, I have 2 voltmeters and it doesn't happed with the other one, but it does happen consistently with the first one.

I'm confused....

What kind of meter? On my digital, if I don't have the scale set right, or use the auto-scale, I'll get an infinite reading before the meter automatically switches to the next higher scale. When I think to set the meter on the correct scale, everything checks out fine.

This is a case where a cheap needle type (analog) meter is actually more usefull.

The sample & hold interval of digital meters makes it hard to verify a smooth sweep.

Do you know anyone that has an o-scope to check the sensor? That would give you the most accurate reading. Can u test your dvom on another tps? Are you having some kind of engine problem? I need to test mine too because my haltech is showing when my tps his 20%, it starts to go down to 5%, then it will climb back up to 100%. I need to buy an s5 version.

Since you have doubts, try this. Connect the tps plug up to the harness. Put the meters negative lead on a known ground like the engine or battery negative. Now back probe the green/red wire on the tps plug. The half of the plug that is connected to the engine harness. Turn the key to ON. Put the meter to dcvolts. Now move the tps plunger from one end of its travel to the other while watching the meter for open readings.
