Experiencing detonation

Ok, i'm hearing this metallic rattling sound from my motor sometimes when im accelerating and i heard that that means i'm getting detonation. The plugs and wires are both fairly new. What else should i do to fix this problem??

Try retarding your timing a couple degrees or use higher octane gas.

my 88 gxl did that before the coolant seals went on vacation. My timing was off and that was causing it. It was most noticable when climbing hills.

1) Check your spark plug wire positions, especially T1 and T2!
Having T1 and T2 swapped will cause detonation!

2) Check heat shields from the exhaust.
Loose ones will rattle!
