Exhaust smoke..
I have a 1987 Mazda Rx-7 I recently bought. I do not know any of the history of this car. It seemed fine at first. Then one day I revved it up a bit and smoke began coming out of the exhaust. Since then I have not really driven it much in fear of something bad. Now it sometimes does it when I start it up, but it is very minimal and only sometimes. It seems to always do it when I accelerate into higher rpms. Sorry I cannot say how high because my tach is not working. My friend told me my oil injector may be staying open or whichever as he said when he went to move it that it didn't move like his had on his Rx-7. So, I am only hoping my apex seals are not the problem. Oh, the smoke kind of smells a lot like gas. More gas mixture than oil smell. Also, the smoke is white. No hint of blue or any other color. Thanks!

White = Coolant = Bad
Greyish/Blue = Oil = normal
Did you overheat the car? Seams to me you have a minor coolant leak which isn't so bad on a rotary but the only way to properly fix it is to rebuild the engine.

Does the exhaust smell sweet-like (you can recreate the smell by pouring a teaspoon of coolant on a small fire as a lab experiment)? Is your coolant level staying the same, or does it go down or bubble up in the coolant reservoir?
You mentioned it smells more like it's running rich, so it may not be the above. Do a compression test with the engine cold, and then hot, just to give you/us a better idea.

try that.. ive never tired it(seeing as i dont own a fc at all YET, hopefully in a few days that will change...) but it seems like a last resort if it is a coolent leak...

I get a tiny bit of smoke on startup once in a while, too, usually ONLY when I have to unflood the motor which, after fixing my starter problem, hasn't been an issue...
soccr, I'd say keep a close eye on your coolant and check its level every day before you drive it. if you're losing coolant, even if only measurable after a month, you might do some more checks on the system.

its cool man mine smokes same year ect....look its this particular year seems to have this problem more than any other ...thanks MAZDA : ( ....anyway your coolant and oil seals are just getting old / weak.....if the car sat for a period of time then this problem came from that more than likely ...car is fine ....just save up and rebuild : ) when you get the $$

You know, shpaintball, my car has been sitting for a long time. Two years to be exact. I just thought at first that my car was getting rid of a lot of crap and cleaning itself out. But then it keeps happening. And when I rev it high is mostly when the smoke comes and it can come out a whole lot and cover the street with smoke. Thanks for all the input so far.
