exhaust size???

It looks like we are going to have to put on a whole new custom exhaust on our new 87 tII and i was wondering what you guys would vote for on exhaust size? I'm just not sure if putting 3" exhaust all the way back would be such a good idea. so what have you guys done and what kind of a result did you get?

Racing Beat Headers, corksport single exhaust or Racing Beat exhaust. The *two* most commonly used rotary exhausts.

A lot of people like to run 3", this topic has been covered more times than you can imagine. Search!

That's the commonly accepted high-performance header.

I guess 2.5" or 3" is normal. I'm not sure, my car came with dual 2.5" straight pipe and it's loud as ****. It seems to run fine.

Well I see, but I didn't quite understand. Were you simply asking if dual 3" all the way back is bad? If so, then no. Your engine can handle it.

if it's a stock or hybrid turbo then get the racing beat rev t2. the sound is very quiet compared to other exhausts and when you let it eat it's nice and loud. there really isn't a better exhaust

3" is a good choise on a turbo II. id sugest getting some sort of good quality resonator and a decent mufler if you want to keep sound levels under control. for instnace racing beat makes a very nice mid section presilencer/resonatator. remember rotarys run really hot so make sure u get stainless steel packed items.

well i plan on making a custom exhaust system on the car but i dont think im going to be able to get around buying a down pipe. im not too worried about it being too loud. most people dont mind around here. id just like to be able to still here the radio while im driving. but if it ends up sounding like a little honda ill be vary upset.

It's really hard to make a rotary sound like a Honda. Just because we have the displacement doesn't mean we have the same tone.

It's generally smooth and high pitched, and you can get raspy if you try. Rotary sound is definitely unique though.

Racingbeat mufflers will be the best way to avoid sounding ricey. They'll give you very deep notes in the mid-range, but be very quiet at idle and low throttle. As suggested already, the REV-TII (3" to dual 2.375") is a good way to go. Oh, and ignore all the talk of headers...there are no headers on a TII, just a downpipe.

thank you! im so sick of people with n/a's sending me links to racing headers lol.
anyways, im going to do something unique muffler wise... simply because we dont have the money to buy a full exhaust set. so custom exhaust it is. I've been looking at cherry bomb glasspack exhausts just for a cheep solution for now. i've never heard one on a rx-7 before. they are more known as a muscle car exhaust, but i guess ill let you guys know how it all sounds some day soon.

+1

The exhaust will get so hot that it will literally melt away after about 10-15 min of driving or so.... so I hear. Still on stock exhaust myself, but I'm looking at the RB Rev II full exhaust system. One thing I haven't heard anyone else chime in on is boost creep by moving to a larger, free-flowing exhaust. From what I understand, you will most likely need to port your wastegate if you go with that.

+1 on the boost creep. An S4 turbo has a TINY wastegate and will boost creep like a mother once you start letting the engine breathe. You can port that tiny little wastegate and mitigate the problem, but I think the better (yet still inexpensive) solution is to upgrade to a stock S5 turbo. This gives you dual wastegates of a larger size than the single in the S4 (Which can still be ported quite a bit), a more efficient design, no more lame-o dual scroll, etc.

I bought the smaller 2 1/2 inch Racing beat setup. It's expensive but worth the money. I have a TII and the sound is semi-loud at full throttle but quiet at idle or cruise. Remember to port the wastegate reguardless of what exhaust you put on. Heck if you have the time and money buy a blown S5 turbo and use the manifold and hotside so you have an even larger wastegate.

I am assuming you are on the stock turbo. Port your wastegate and do a 3" turbo back exhaust and call it a day.

What are your plans for the car? Are you going to be running a bigger turbo in the future? If you are going to be making big power you might want to consider a big exhaust if you dont care if it is going to be loud

I've got a racing beat 3inch turbo back I can sell. I replaced it with the rx7store.net 3inch turbo back. The rx7store exhaust is a single though. I got some vids if you wanna see em.

im not sure what im going to do with the car. but i do know right now that it needs an exhaust before i can even drive... that is after we get it put back together. we simply dont have money to burn on a turbo or a full exhaust system.
