Exhaust Question.

I have my 1990 Rx7 and anyone living in NW Washington knows about the sudden chill we got this last week. I have an exhaust leak. And along with this exhaust leak I want to know if the difference from 20 years old stock exhaust that had holes in it would be much louder than adding 2 1/2 inch from the cat back to some cheap ebay mufflers. RS mufflers to be exact that I got for free. thanks to business partner "1mzfe". I then paid 250 dollars to have it installed.

Also being rear wheel drive and weighing only 2200 lbs. +/- 500 lbs with a half inch of slush is there any way to really keep from spinning the tires even a little bit especially if trying to get back into traffic lanes from a median with excessive amounts of slush snow mix.

Does anyone have a full stock exhaust in decent condition? If so how much do you want for it?

Stock exhaust is OK.
Crappy mufflers are Just That.Crap.
Stay away from Glass packs especially if you want to use them as a resonator.you may as well Throw the money to the Needy(ME!).
If you want a set up that lasts, look into Racing Beat or something Like Borla Xr1 mid resonator and some Decent Mufflers. The Car makes MUSH out of cheapies due to the extreme exhaust heat.
Oh.Use the Sec Gen For Sale section for WTB parts.,it is Handy and the Guys there are usually Fair with their Prices.

I used to winter drive my '90 GTU which also had an open diff like your GXL. I struggled with traction when there was slush on the roads; it's much worse than packed snow. If you'll be seeing much below-freezing winter driving, invest in a good set of winter (snow) tires.

I understand that the mufflers I got are cheap that is what I got them for temporarily. But noise reduction considering the change cheap mufflers with no holes or would stock mufflers with holes all over them make more noise? I am just collecting information from other sources.

As for the driving aspect thanks for the answer. Again this weather was last moments notice here in Lacey, Olympia area as is was for the entire NW washington area. Being a rear wheel drive and pulling over to help someone is what I was doing however when I went to leave my tires spun for a split second then I shifted to the next gear with the intent of traction. Which was not happening on this slight uphill. Any other input on the traction issue. I was going in between jobs on yelm highway anyone else have this problem during this time period of last week.

Well for traction you could just put some sand bags or somthing in the rear. weigh it down as much as you can.

Can you do me a favor and have Aaron (1mzfe) call or PM me. thanks.

Mmm. The GTUs weighed in at about 2700 lbs. You probably weigh about 2800 pounds if youre a GTU, more if you're a GXL or turbo.

Regardless, snow must suck. I just wanted to clear that up.

I suggest you sell the cheap mufflers and buy a real catback, that way you don't waste money destroying the cheap mufflers.
