Exhaust Question

If i were to buy a muffler with a 2.5 inlet and then get three inch pipe, would i be wasting the space because the inlet it too small? Also, what is the maximum muffler inlet/pipe diameter i should go for...?

You have a GXL right? I would go no bigger than 3 inches but I have 2.5 or 2.75 on mine. I hink it would be waisting space or it would mess up the flow.what year is you car?

Why would you get a 2.5 inlet muffler and 3 in pipe? You can get a reducer... but why?

It's an '87 GXL.

I was asking just because i see a lot of mufflers with like 2.5 inlets and i just figured that was a more universal size... personally, i want the most flow i can get. I was assuming that it would greatly detriment the flow by going from big to small, i just wanted to make sure.

I would recomend the Dual exahust setup sold by mazdatrix.com but it is expensive and many people will tell you it sucks and sounds like crap. Then i will jump them and hit them over the head with their apexi N1's and drag them to the desert and leave them with a taped recording of my exhaust playing over and over on a boom box and then go back and ask them if they like it yet until they say yes then shoot them in the clutch leg and kick them in the NUTS.

Pathetically enought... I cant afford anything except about a 100-200 dollar muffler and the muffler shop to widen the pipe.

I like the smily but it took me about 6 months to finally put down that much cash. I never thought I would spend 1300 bux on something.

Until i did that is. just save up and have something custom made.

damn. LOL I forget sometimes I don't really have bills. Only a suga mama she makes 8 bux an hour and pays for a lot of stuff. I think she enjoys that. Like I said priorities. I would say save up about 500-600 and get a cat back and then get a header/high flow cat or pre-silencer if you don't have to pass emmisions testing. do it in steps.
