exhaust options

hey all. were still taking our time with the tranny swap!

taking right ariound a week b/c we're working between job shifts.

anyway, the exhuast has become a casusalty of the situation (and several years of south dakota snow rain and road salt.) The cat is probably 3 years old (came emissions good from florida 3 years ago.) Everything is pretty much rusted now, and I had to beat the hell out of it to get it loose from the y pipe and manifold (ypipe was welded, manifold bolts were rusted)

in any case im looking for a cheap easy replacement. I don't want to bother with any special expensive cat, because in south dakota, no one gives a heck. And if a cop does look under the car to try to find one, its just as easy to say its a roatary and part of the manifold and they wont know better (not that i think any of them know what a catalitic converter or rotary is)

its nice to be in the middle of nowhere.

I was thinking just straight pipe all the way back to two free flowing cheap turbo muflers ($50-75 each). I do nt really want anything that will sound like a pissed off bumble bee, but in the same dont want something that sounds like its farting in a can (cough *rice* on both accounts.)

What can I do, what pipe size should I run? I understand the exhaust needs to be extremely fre flowing, but still needs the veloicity to vacumn out more exhuast.

90 GTU Automatic Trans. NA. car had fake duals (beofre my accidental yet fatal removal of them) I would like to keep the entire project under 200 if at all possible. The rest of my funds went into needed tires and the transmission replacement.

Thanks

limited budget is whats causing me to ask this. thanks all!!

i should clarify again that in sd we dont have emissions checks. I dont mean to sound too noobish either. Just looking for some advise from the wiser. I know speed costs money. I'm looking at duals because the car has the cut out for duals- it would look too strange w/o. And I don't care for anything that looks huge... or at least so huge thatit looks like it belongs on a honda.

IF you dont want name-brand items, just take it to an exhaust shop and see if they can bend you up a custom system, and just choose some mufflers you like. Corksport has decent mufflers, I think they are ~$85 a piece. Or search on ebay for mufflers, you want something packed with SS, not fiberglass, as fiberglass will melt with the heat of the rotary, especially with no cats. www.rx7.com carries a Bonez racepipe, which replaces everything from the exhaust manifold to the Y-pipe just a presilencer. Pretty good price too. The also have their brand catbacks which are reasonably priced.
