Question Exhaust mods to shoot flames in Cali

So, here's the deal. I want to make some exhaust upgrades that with help my 88 GXL run better and also shoot some afterfires. I have a couple questions from anyone who has fixed up their FC to do this.
1. Do I need to delete the mufflers (full straight pipe) or is a Cat delete enough?

Also I live in Cali, so I was looking at a Bönez cat replacement "Race Pipe" that bolts on to the stock exhaust manifold, so that I could just put the cat back on easily when ever I need it smogged or want it changed back. Problem is that the Bönez Race Pipe is designed to meet up with the manifold, so if I wanted to replace it with headers it wouldn't fit, since the Racing Beat headers match the RB presilencer. Link for the Race Pipe: https://www.rx7.com/store/rx7/fcexhaust.html#Nonturbo
2. What is the best combination of these parts (or other parts) that could just "bolt together" that will fit my purposes (minor power increase, mostly better exhaust flow and spitting out some flames on a stock timing)?

I can clarify anything if it helps get a better answer. I have been learning a lot while researching exhaust the past couple days. Also I am sure a lot of people probably find this to be a ricey and unnecessary thing to do but I am dumb and young and just want to have some fun with my car. Thanks in advance!

Edit: Also after looking at older forums, I obviously need an exhaust that can keep enough back pressure to open up the 5/6 ports, so what ever exhaust combination that can accomplish that while still fitting with what I wanted to do that I stated above.

cat delete is enough, in fact it might be all you need to do.

Awesome. And to clarify, will the back pressure from the mufflers be enough to open the 5th and 6th ports?

So if you want to keep the factory manifold instead of getting a header, get this
Down Pipe / Presilencer Kit for 86-88 RX-7 NT - Manual - Racing Beat
Add this
Power Pulse RX-7 Exhaust System for 86-92 RX-7 (All models) - Racing Beat

And shoot away. You could use a different straight thru stlye muffler if you find one that will hold up to a rotary's exhaust. Then you can put your cat back in when needed. Also the 5th/ 6th port will work properly with the RB presilencer.

Just buy my Bee R rev limiter and open up the exhaust.

I run a S4 with a Bonez single cat system and Borla exhaust. . . .2.5" diameter to the tail pipe.

At first the, Bonez single cat + glass pack would let me pass smog in Ca, but after 10 years, I now need to put the 3 cat system in so it will pass.

That being said, my setup has great sound and is a noticeable improvement in power even with the stock airbox.

I've thought about getting a header, but you have to find one with an O2 sensor port. . . . And even then, a visual on smog will catch you unless you have a CARB sticker for it. .. . .Also, a header has a particular sound when installed. .... I've heard others, I didn't like it for the street.. . .Just too annoying.

Racing Beat has the O2 sensor port.

Although nice, in CA we need a CARB sticker too. Which the Racing Beat header doesn't supply.

Between the louder sound, and lack of CARB sticker, I would not recommend a header for a daily driver in CA unless you want to wrench it on and off every two years. .. It's bad enough doing a mid pipe as I have been doing for the last 15 years.

RX7's with headers have a distinctive sound.. . .Not to my tastes but to each their own.
