exhaust leak

i can hear an exhaust leak, but i can't seem to find it anywhere under the car. It definitely seems to be coming from the rear portion at or behind the y-pipe, but i can't feel any exhaust coming out when i hold my hand near the pipe. I think it must be under the heat shield thingy somewhere, but is there a place this will commonly happen? I'd like to have an idea where to check before i go ripping the whole thing out to find the leak.

it didn't seem to be gaskets when i gave it a quick once over, but i know i do need to check them. I'm going to hopefully get some spare time this weekend to look into it and hopefully chunk the pre-cat which i'm pretty sure is clogged. Is the entire factory exhaust stainless steel? if so I need to talk to someone about borrowing a welder set up for it
