Exhaust Ground/3800RPM Hesitation
Ok so about a month ago I installed a corksport catback and I had to cut the ground going from the top of the body somewhere, not sure what it was for but it was a weird looking braided wire, to get the old exhaust out and put the new one in, now i figured if i had any problems arising from it i would not drive the car and post here, but i didnt have any problems whatsoever so i just drove it, at the time i wasnt even sure if it was a ground wire or just some weird support thing.
The last two weeks or so ive been having intermittent problems with a hesitation at or around 3800 RPMs, it has always varied in severity, sometimes i noticed it but it didnt really do much and sometimes it felt almost as if the car cut off for a split second, but this doesnt happen very often and it seems to only happen when the car is hot or warmed up, which kinda makes sense. Everyone ive talked to about it said that it didnt do anything or it was already cut on they're car. Another related issue which led me to believe that it was a ground was that my stereo would start to cut out at about 6-8k RPM only at WOT and mostly only in second and third gear, which is also strange, so i did a better grounding job on my stereo, which it wasnt done all that great anyways, and it seems to have msotly remedied the problem, atleast with the stereo, now im wondering if this wire IS in fact a ground and if i redo the ground if it will help, or if its the ground for my fuel pump or something? My volt meter has also SEEMS to be displaying a slight increase, which may be my voltage regulator in ym alternator, but i cant be sure on that eitherw

The exhaust grounds have 2 functions.
One is corrosion control.
The other is to supply a solid ground for the oxygen sensor.
Both are probably unrelated to the hesitation/misfire issue.
The two most likely causes of ~4K hesatation are:
1) A weak firewall to bellhousing ground that results in the ECU getting confusing signals from all the sensors.
2) A worn out TPS that has some drop outs in its stroke.
One is corrosion control.
The other is to supply a solid ground for the oxygen sensor.
Both are probably unrelated to the hesitation/misfire issue.

It may also be caused by a poor ground connection under the upper intake manifold. This is the main grounding point for the secondary injectors which come on at 3800 rpm under load, hence the hesitation at around 4000 rpm.

this exhaust ground was at the rear of the car right where th rubber donuts are where the muffer hangs on. and i will redo the firewall to bell housing ground, i think it got a bit melted when i was doing my clutch and it fell off and i couldnt find it anywhere. then i found it but it looked like it was heated up a bit, while it was off it was also causing some slow starting

ok so i replaced the ground that goes from the bell housing to the firewall and i used 10g copper primary wire and gold connectors that were crimped and soldered and it helped quite a bit, more so than i thought, SMOOTHER idle, and i mean ALOT smoother and im not sure if its me but my headlights look ALOT brighter than they used to. thanks for the suggestion sureshot and tomorrow when there is sunllight i will be checking and replacing grounds as needed

check your grounds, basic tune up if you havent already (fuel and air filter, oil, sparkplugs, sparkplug wires, flush and fill coolent, tranny and diff fluid) check all connectors, if those didnt work try puting in new grounds, im about to do this just for the preventitive matter, so ill probably be posting again in the next week on how much of a bitch it may be. Hows your idle? TPS may need to be brought into spec again, but, focus on the cheap/free stuff first and then work your way up
