Question Exhaust got louder

Ok, so... the other day i was driving my car and it seems to me that the exhaust got louder. as if i raised the volume on them with a remote control. This might be a stupid thread, but im beginning to wonder. So if you can help me out and show me where to begin the search that would be very nice. My hands are ready to get burned! lol... jk

thanks!

well no search on here is going to tell you which gasket, etc. is leaking on your exhaust.

Get under it while its running and feel around for leaks.

There's a hole about the thickness of a Sharpie in my cat. My car got progressively louder as it developed. Now it growls until temps get up when either I'm on the highway and no longer noticing or just desensitized to it.

"innards" whats inside your cat......cat being catalytic convertor. You'll need to replace it if indeed its guts went bye bye.

But as I said, Im not magic nor is anyone else on this forum. You won't know what is wrong until you GET UNDER THE CAR and see whats leaking and causing the noise level to rise. If nothing is leaking then I would suspect the cat has blown out.

Ichaidez, dont take this the wrong way please, but maybe you have more $$ than motivation. No shame in your game if you do, and if so just take it to a good muffler shop. I say that because the only reason *You* are ever going to discover the 'why' or 'what' is to (as someone has said already...) 'Get under your car and do some investigation. The Factory Service Manual is on the internet so all you have to do is print out the exhaust section and go looking for the thing that doesnt fit. With the car running u can tend to hear or feel the leaks.

Dcrasta, im not taking anything the wrong way, and i wouldnt. Only because i havent had the time to get under my car. Money is not the case, its more of "...i dont have the time at the moment so lets see what other people think before i have time to look at it or fix it..." I have the original manual, and the tools. There are other obstacles right now that you wouldnt understand.

But as littlecon, and classicauto mentioned...

Thanks classicauto for the break down, and explaining to me what it is... also for the additional emphasis on the leaking scenario. You know whats funny? That same day i was driving it, i parked my car and looked back... i did see some type of liquid, but i ignored it because i didnt think it was my car that left it. But now that you mention it... its possible that it is a gasket. Thanks!

LittleCon, yea your probably right aslwell, on my to work the street is under major construction so it sucks *** when i drive through un-even road levels. It is possibly some rock off the road hit it. Thanks aswell!

Chances are its not a rock that punched a hole in it... otherwise you would have heard and remembered a very loud noise.

The gaskets are not liquid. they are hard gaskets. Before you get under the car with it on to look for leaks. do this. set aside a few hours where the car has NOT been running for at least an hour. get under the car shake things around. Its possible you broke a stud somewhere and that can cause it to get louder very quickly.

I guess thats a leak too...just bigger than a bad gasket.

so jack up the car give yourself a least 4 inches between your face and the bottom of the car. (the more space between you and the car the better btw) shake things around, if everything feels VERY secure(if no studs are broken it will be very solid) turn the car on, get under there and feel around for leaks. You will know you've found a leak by the sound it makes, and the pressure comming out of the leak; you'll feel it.

Good luck!
