Excessive Engine Heating????

I have a '88 gxl non turbo.... and the car over heats a little to much. I had the radiator drain and filled with new coolant, put a new 180F-82C thermostat in and the engine has been recently tuned, so timing is right, and the water pump seems to work right b/c coolant circulates in radiator....?? So, what do you guys think??

Uh oh... sounds like not a Mazda thermostat

Only use the Mazda thermostat!

Here's a thread on that same very thing that someone found out today:

Scott was refering to the stock water temp gauge that is not entirly accurate.

As with most cars, in the RX-7 most of the gauges can be off +/- 5% and be within factory specs, but as the cars age and people fail to maintain them, the senders can go way off. So the stock gauges should be considered something to referance too, but not the most accurate.
