Exaust Note

I'm looking to buy an exaust in the near future. I want opinions about the tone of the exausts available for the rexy. I want a deep bassy sound. Not too too loud. And absoultely NOT a lawnmower tone like all those rice civics. I want the note to be kinda like a V8 (please don't beat me repeatedly on the head!) Deep at low rpms, and louder at high rpms.

It will be for my slow *** 91 n/a....soon to be a TII

ha, if you are planning on and exhaust for the NA give up on a v8 sound unless you have some bridge ports. NA's with full exhaust sound like a crotch rocket winding out.

This is what a full exhaust NA sounds like from over 100 yards away.

That sounds pretty decent. What are your exhaust components?

What about a megaphone right before the tailpipe? I have heard they give the exhaust a much lower tone. Supposedly the APEXi N1 has a megaphone-ish pipe right before the exit? True? What do you guys think?

for the turbo go with a full RB system, relatively quiet at idle and at low rpm, very basey--esp when the turbo begins to spool. I love mine.

Mindtrain Exhaust

I was talking to Fred at Mindtrain and he indicated that the exhaust note that his companies system provided was much like a Chevy small block V8. You might like to give a call...

If I do go for an exhaust system, this is the one I'd probably get for my '91 N/A

I still love the way those Greddy canister look. I think the N1 will be too loud. How about an HKS system? How are those? Are they quiet?

Anything other than the RB catback will be loud and "ricey." Get the RB catback. Any high flow exhaust will uncork thse bad boys enough to make them LOUD, but I have heard that the RB setup is fuller, aggressive, but not ricey.

Actually HKS are more quiet than the RB system, but pricer. Both are good. Greddy is not that bad in noise, but the muffler tip looks like its going to scrap everywhere it touches. Apexi is just I wanna be rice but I dont want to drive civic

I didnt mention that I will need a full exhaust...my cats are rotted through. So when i finish the swap, I might as well just do the full setup.

Here we go with the ricy-ness again. Its all a matter of opinion on sounds. People misuse and overuse the word rice in this forum. Who's to say what is ricy and what isn't?

I don't thnk a rotary CAN sound like a Honda, regardless what type of muffler is on it. A Honda with an Apexi N1 will sound completely different than an RX with the same N1.

If your stock mufflers are still in good shape just get the Bonez racepipe. I replaced my convertors with a straight pipe and really liked the sound. Louder than stock but not to loud. I felt it was a good compromise and certainly cost less than a catback system. I'm considering replacing my supertrapps with some stock mufflers for my street car.

Currently they don't have a website. Search in this forum for "mind train", if I recall, someone talked about them and posted contact info.

I have the bonez superflo hi-flo cat with presilencer and RP performance catback. Nice deep growl, but quiet during street driving... that is, until you nail it.. then it's pretty dang loud.. not "tinny" sounding at all.

Daddy like..
