Ewww... this cant be good

how much oil and grime buildup did you guys have on your intercooler pipes on the hot side next to the turbo. im curious because i was pulling stuff to get to the turbo-exhaust manifold gasket and the front of the turbo + all the pipes leading up were COVERED in thick black solid buildup. we are talkin like at least 1/8" thick. on top of things i cant find a leak. there are 2 oil pipes down there right one upper and one lower? someone help

Troy

Castrol Super Clean is the best I have ever used. Be sure not to leave on aluminium for more than 10 minutes though.

To remove grease from fingernales, use a toothbrush dipped in hand cleaner.

Im not sure if youre talking about oil or what...but I know to clean the INSIDE of an IC, you should use Gasoiline. I guess you could try that on the outside too.

Just do it in a well ventilated area.

Brake cleaner ( or carb cleaner ) works wonders too.

I used the degrease I stole from work. Not sure what it is called, but it is real industrial ****. You have to wear latex gloves when using it, or it will eat off the skin on your hands

Sounds like sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide based...if so, don't use it on aluminum.

I usually use simple green, but it's not aluminum friendly either.

cool, i take it that you can get it at any car shop? what about cleaning the inside of the intercooler. i know that air that goes through there is "supposed" to be filtered. but it cant get 100% of everthing and 11 years of non 100% is bad

Do you even bother reading replies?

I already told you to use gas to clean the inside of it.

I scrubbed the lip of my intercooler with carb cleaner and a VERY fine grit sandpaper. Then I polished it out with some polishing compound. Looks VERY good now!

I agree, it does look good. I think I may do mine the same way. Is there anywhere to get the stock stickers for the IC, though? I kinda like them.
