The everpresent question: Aluminum flywheel, or s-afc??

Well, now that i've got almost enough saved up for a s-afc, i've been thinking about just buying a pressure regulator, and then go out and buy a aluminum flywheel!

Either that, maybe i should just do it right and buy a s-afc. I'm shure i'd make more hp this way anyway.

What do ya guys think?

Incase you guys are wondering, or have'nt seen my other post, i've got a air/fuel ratio of about 10 to 1. Just a wee bit rich is all. CJ

I would definately get the S-AFC.

The flywheeI would definately get the S-AFC.

Check out www.thepartstrader.com
I got mine on there for 200 US.- There are alwasy a few on there, for more or less!

Man, I wonder if there is something weird with my car- if i tried to run that rich, it would bareley accelerate without severe hesiation!
Oh well.

jeah,i'm with bambam7,i would go for the s-afc[especially loki'n at how rich ur running].also,i dont know how light you really wanna go on the flywheel, but the cromoly flywheel from www.japperformance.com are sort of a more economical way to go.i got one from'em,they look good, have not got the car back together yet thou.its 12pds[on my scale]+ the weight of the counterweight[5pds,i think],i guess pretty heavycompared to alu.,but, hey, its all about the $$'s,right.=)
mine came up to $220.- us with priority shipping and the counterweight.if you have a auto tranny counterweight, and can wait a month[for ground shipping],it would be a bunch less.but,yeah-get that s-afc!!we all wanna see how many more horsies you can tweak out with the right fuel/air ratio!

It runs a little rich until about 4,500, then it starts getting realy bad. But over all gas milage is about 25mpg. Even with dynoing my car, on this last tank of fuel, i got over 400 miles. CJ

Wow, 25 mpg is great, I only get that kind of milage when it's all highway. S-AFC? Is that a computer chip?

The s-afc is a piggy back fuel controller. I think it allows you to adjust the AFM/MAF signal the ecu gets. Therefore you can trick the motor into thinking its not flowing as much fuel air as it realy is....so the computer would make the car run leaner. Atleast i think this how it works. CJ

I've seen 'other' NA cars with fuel pressure regulators dyno with 13.5 when it's correctly set. If you can get an FPR cheaper, it will do the same job.

220 is definately on the low side of fuel economy.

My '90 vert would get 225 never going more than 5 miles back and forth to work in stop and go traffic. On the highway, depending on how fast and top up/down it would go 300-330 before stopping for gas.

The more effeicent the exaust, and intake path, the better fuel milage you'll get. CJ

Hopefully my downpipe will help out on my gas mileage. I usually run 220-250 miles per tank, and I know I'm running a little rich. How did you figure out how rich you were running?? I just got an Apexi A/F meter on my turbo timer and it usually reads 14.7 out of 20. Anyone know how rich that is? hehe
