Question Estimate of HP??

HI all,

I tried searching for a similar post, but didn't find it, I'm hoping someone will be able to help me out.

Just got my FC a couple months ago, and am finally starting to look around for the best deal. Unfortunately, a bunch of insurance companies wants to know what kind of HP I'm making wiht the mods (well, they want to know how much extra power I'm making over stock). I don't have time right away to find a dyno in town, let alone take it in, so I'm hoping I can find someone on here who could give me a good guess...

Car is:
88 N/A FC
K&N Cone filter
Ractive intake (really just the filter housing)
mild street port (I'm still trying to find out more specifics)
single 2.5" exhaust without emissions devices
High flow muffler (I don't know specifics, but it's really close to not being there...)
A/C removed

And now for the Bonus Question!!

Assuming everything else is just about stock, any idea on 1/4mi times? The guys in my local club ay it'll do 14.4, but that seems fast to me. Of course, I'm comparing it to my last car -- a firefly with major engine and tranny problems that might have done it in 35-40 sec...)A few things that might be relevant here though - I've got 195/60R14 Potenza 950s all around and the car's been gutted down to the carpet. Weight is around 2500lbs with driver.

I will get both of these figured out for sure and post them if you guys want me to. At least when life calms down a bit, but who knows when that'll be. I'll also be restoring some weight - like the coolant level sensor wires, rear wiper wires, stereo antenna cable, headlights switch. Stuff that would be nice in a daily driver...

175 would be a ball park(maybe a big ball park, who knows) I wouldn't admit to to much increase, tell them it's more for fuel economy. They just want a reason to raise your rates, if you crash the car bad enough they aren't going to pull your engine and dyno it! "Sorry, you said you had 175hp, we were able to get it to put out 183hp on the dyno.....CLAIM DENIED!!!!
I don't drag race so I'm no help with Q-Mile times.

I'd say more like 150ish at the wheels. All depends on how mild that mild streetport is.

Whyfor did you tell your insurance company that your car was modded?

I may get around to doing that if I have a lot of expensive stuff, but... that's just IMHO asking for trouble with the insurance types.

"OES NOES CONE FILTER! STREET RACER!"

'Cause I already have 2 convictions for driving without insurance and the next one is jail time. As far as Alberta Justice is concerned, not telling my insurance company about the mods is as bad as not having it. That's how I got the second one... Don't get me started on that. I'd had the car for a little over a month when that happened. Same as having insurance, but not on that vehicle, which is how I got the first one. They don't all want to know either, only about half. Of course, they're the ones with the best rates.

I drove my friend's 86N/A and his is unmodifed. Absolutely nothing changed from stock and the difference was barely noticeable, so I don't expect much of a gain.

I'd rather pay a couple hundred dollars a year in insurance for a few years than spend 6 months in jail and/or have to pay a $5000 fine. Besides, if I wind up paying the government regualted rate anyway, I can go nuts with the mods and maybe actually MAKE my 250WHP goal. Of course that'd be after I get the handling to the point where I can actually make use of that power on the autox/ice racing tracks.

maybe mid 15's with a good driver. stock s4 NA's will dyno around 120rwhp. mild streetport won't really add a ton to that, with mods i'd say maybe like 140-150 rwhp.

First one was $2875, second one was $3500. The second one would have been higher except the cop lost the "notice to seek further penalties" notice he gave me. I think I can afford a little higher insurance if it keeps those away!

That's more in line with what I was thinking... I'll shoot for high 15s/low 16s. I' ve only had the car a few months and I really can't launch well at all yet. I'm getting better, but I still can't get the clutch right, I usually wind up letting it out a little fast, and bogging down or missing the the revs and trying to launch either way low like 2K RPM or way high like 6K RPM. Oh well, I'll get it soon. Then I'll post again and let you all know what happened.

Thumbs down

Am I the only one sick of "I've got these few weak *** mods. How much power am I getting?" threads? Friggen noobs. Buy a NOS first gen G-Tech off eBay for $35, weigh the car and find out for yourself!
