?erratic idle stalled and wont start?

?erratic idle stalled and wont start?

im new to rotarys so im having trouble on this one i leave work get about a block idle goes crazy bouncing between 2000 and 3800 then dies i open the hood to see what is happening and the cruise controll cable came off i know i ont need this which is why im having such a hard time figuring it out the battery is good cables are on tight all grounds are tight its trying to turn over but then wont if anyone has had a similar problem please anything to point me in the right direction

probably flooded by now, dunno why it did that though probably a vacuum leak.

thats what i thougt but i checked all vaccum lines all secure

just becuase they look good doesnt mean u were able to get to every vacume hose/line have it vacume tested, sounds like a leak to me

but what does the cruise controll cable have to do with all this right when it popped off is when all this started to happen

checked all vacuum lines all were good went over everything so friend told me to reset the ecu and dont know why but that worked

no we got it started after resetting the ecu all the vacuum lines are good i spent all day checking and replacing them i dont see how the ecu could randomly cause the rps to go crazy and die and then a day later work like it never happened

How did you "reset" the ecu?

disconnected it and the battery waited a fewhours then reconected it ive never actually heard of it before my mechanic friend said to try it i tried everything else so figured why not it workedshe runs but dont know why it happened in the first place

Sounds more like a crappy batt connection that you inadvertently fixed by tweaking the terminal.

Never heard of such a thing on these cars.
