an epiphany... faster acceleration

Ok, so everyone wants 4.30 gtu_s gears in their cars (or even higher) to get faster acceleration, but theyre expensive, so what about this: Whatever rims and tires youre running, take it down a bit.. What i mean is get tires that their outside diameter is less than what you are currently using. The smaller diameter tire would spin more times than stock tires rolling the same distance, meaning less power is needed to turn them. As far as I can see, this would exactly duplicate what bigger differential gears would do... even mess up your speedo What do you guys and gals think?

yes, very good round eye. stock tires for my car (SE) were 185/70/14 and i got 205/50/15 which is a little over an inch smaller in diameter, therefore raising my rear end ratio and giving me better acceleration, making my speedo read about 9% higher than i'm really going, and lowered the car about a half an inch. i see those tire sizes chosen a lot for the n/a second gen so i guess i made a good pick. i thought about going to 60 series when i get new tires, but i can't think of any reason to unless i wanted it to be higher (i don't) and go slower (i don't)

Smaller (shorter) tires = faster acceleration. Bigger(taller) tires= more top end speed. We use this type of gearing at every race track. If we are on a slow track we run 40's if we are on a fast track we run 50's and sometimes we use 45's.
