engine wiring

I'm ripping out the engine in my '90 vert, I've got an engine hoist coming thursday. I was wondering how to get the huge wire bundle - with all the connectors to the crap on the engine - out of the engine. It seems a few connectors are under the vdi manifold and I need to take the vdi manifold off to get the connectors off.. BUT one of the engine hooks is attached to it so... how do I get them out?

I posted this in the general tech section, but seeing as I need this ready by thurs/fri. I'm posting two threads, so don't kill me mods :P

I'd pull the harness with the engine. This has been covered in great detail at Rotary Resurrections web site, here is the link

Go to tech section, engine removal--that should answer all your questions.

Read the free, online fsm where you'll see how on removal you disconnect the *engine harness* plugs in the interior such as the ones to the ECU and remove that part of the harness thru the large black grommet in the right hand firewall.

Or you can be a neanderthal like me and remove the dynamic chamber and dissconnect the plugs/harness from the engine. I prefer that way myself, after all, you usually take and engine out to overhaul it and what happens when you overhaul and engine.......you take the dynamic chamber off to dismantle the engine.

hailers, I agree with you, but seeing as one of the engine service hooks is a part of it, that means I'd have to put it back on to lift the engine, and then take it off again for the rebuild.

Just two bolts. Short ones at that. It's still simpler than the harness removal. Much simpler.

two?! I think the s4 and s5 manifolds are really different in that aspect, there are six bolts on the vdi manifold, not to mention other things that must be removed to gain access from them.

doesn't matter anyway, I allready pulled it from the ecu.
