engine went pop

so i was driving down the parkway on my way home from work, and all of a sudden there is a pop, a small puff of smoke, and then the motor started running real rough, so i pulled over checked under the hood for loose anything and found nothing, the car started back up and continued to run like crap, although when off the throttle it revved down nice and smooth i got home and tested the compression, 76/78 . any thoughts? i am thinking it is a really bad leaking injector, as it smells really rich at idle, i checked the plugs and none looked really wet or fouled. please help.. i have to get to work tomorow am!

when testing for compression do you have the schrader valve removed ? Or are you getting 3 even readings for each rotor?

You know... rich fuel smell.. pop, smoke...

Check the DP just in case man... maybe you got lucky, some fuel exploded, took out a few vaccumm hoses... but didn't burn your entire car down...

no that was the total pressure at the end of cranking it about 10 revolutions for each rotor, also i disconnected the secondaries because i was having a problem with one of the injectors and thought it got stuck open but that did not solve the problem, i still have a lumpy non stabalizing idle and extremely rich exhaust, comparing this to a piston car, it sounds like im not running on all cylinders, let me know what you guys think, ill be checking back frequently so post as much as you can, even if you think i need a new short-block.....by the way this is a supercharged application!!!!
thanks in advance

If you did a full rotation like that, you should be above 90PSI, not in the 70s. I'm thinking you lost a seal somewhere.

Goto www.rotaryresurrection.com click on tech and read the compression test info.

is that typical for both rotors to go at once? i wasnt even pushing it that hard... maybe the 10 mile drive afterwards did it in, oil pressure stayed high, and coolant temps never rose at all
